Draak is back.

Darkstone, a classic hack-and-slash that introduced 3D graphics into the genre, will have you hacking through hordes of horrors with a 60% discount on GOG.com. That's only $2.39 for the next 24 hours.

When your legal name is "Lord Draak" and you wield the power to transform yourself into a giant dragon, becoming an evil overlord seems like the obvious career choice. Then, if by some strange and totally unexpected twist of fate, you end up deprived of your magic, banished from the realm, and nearly killed you are, again, left with not much of a choice. You obviously need to gather back your minions and devise a new evil plot to terrorize the land and rebuild your reign of fear, violence and darkness. Right? RIGHT?! Well, tough luck, Lord Draak, this game is not about you. It’s about the valiant heroes that are out to get you. Let's repeat that part: Out. To get you. Right. Now.

In Darkstone a party of up to four adventurers sets off on a quest to free the realm of Uma of its oppressor. In the co-op multi-player mode each player controls one of them. In single-player you can switch between two characters and the computer will take control of the one you leave unattended. There are four provinces to explore, each with its own set of quest-filled, procedurally-generated dungeons to keep you busy and boost the game’s replay value. If you enjoy hacking the minions of evil and slashing through one dark, damp dungeon after another, preferably with some friends at your side, but this title somehow is missing from your DRM-free collection, today is the best day to grab it!

Fourteen years after its release, Darkstone remains one of the most memorable titles of the hack-and-slash genre! Start dungeon crawling now, for only $2.39 until Tuesday, October 29 at 10:59AM GMT.
This is a great game, but the resolution is definitely stuck at 640x480. I had it on a laptop and it looked just fine with black bars on the side, but I'd imagine that the view has a range of good-to-crappiness based on the monitor its used with.
I was certain I was never going to be conned into playing this silly Diablo clone again, painfully dated as it is in story, mechanics, and beat-with-an-ugly-stick late 90s 3D graphics, but I was proved wrong. Especially since $2.39 barely buys a quart of milk or decent cup of coffee anymore.

Well played, GOG. Oh, the mosquito bite of nostalgia.

BreOl72: There's one thing that makes me wonder over and over here on GOG.com:

ble over some games (often in promos) where I think, "I could've bet, I already bought that some time ago!"...totally surprised, to find that this is not the case.
Heh, when I saw this I had a different, but similar situation. I never even knew this game was part of the library! Its funny how I haven't seen every game here by now.
I don't know how well, or if, these will work with the GOG version but you might want to check out the high-res mods to the Darkstone exe at the wsgf.org website (I would post a link if I was allowed).
Hey GOG where's Tuesday's game/s???

????
I don't see any high-res mods
I bought this last year - absolutely AWESOME game -- one of the best I've bought on GOG. Played it through twice I loved it so much, and that's rare for me :)

I absolutely agree 100%. It's unfortunate that some people can't get past the graphics, because they're being denied a pretty stellar gaming experience. But then, I have a hard time enjoying Dungeon Keeper 1 for that very reason, so I understand it.

Terrific game, though. One thing no one has mentioned, btw, is that it was from GOD - the infamous Gathering of Developers team (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gathering_of_Developers).

Brilliant. I can confirm that these work with Windoze 7 64-bit just fine. You will notice that some graphical glitches remain (cursor ghosting, your toolbar is stretched, inventory is teeny), but these things may not even bother you.

Just rename your original Darkstone.exe and pop the new one in the same directory. Thanks for the link!

EDIT to add: I'm going to pop these into the Darkstone forum (with credit, of course).

Oh damn, I just tried this game out on my new computer and the graphics are utterly screwed, as in I can't even see the walls of buildings, textures are clipping all over the place, damn I don't remember this problem on my other machine.

I guess I should just send a ticket to GOG support?

I would, and I'd also check out the forum thread below to see if it's similar to what you're experiencing.

Yeah, exactly the same for me, the screenshot I took to show it is pretty much the same too.
