Already picked this up earlier, and looking forward to playing it. Unfortunately, I am thoroughly engrossed in a game that has totally taken over most of my spare gaming time...Eador MotBW. Damn, this game looks to be incredibly long (the campaign anyway), and it has really appealed to what I enjoy in a strategy game.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand...great price, nice promo...plan to try it someday myself :P

Let say I grabbed the source code so generously provided by GOG and then developed my "own" game based on that. Now, driven by the hunger for fame, recognition and adoration (and hot girls!) I would like to release it to the public... Am I allowed to monetize my work? Are there any "fees" required and for who?

Of course scenario mentioned above is purely hypothetical. Making a game using source code? Man, I'm unable to code "hello world", even if my life will depends on it :(...
While the actual license is not yet confirmed, devs plan from start (I linked the topic about it above) has been that any commercial release based on source code requires commercial license from devs (making free game should be possible). I also pointed another possible limitation that could render the code pretty much useless to source code projects but we'll have to wait till someone actually posts the license to see what limitations it has.

FYI, one of the most unique and best titles on here or anywhere else. Not easy, not particularly replayable, but a CLASSIC!

Non-commercial use only. So, no making myself filthy rich with new and epic space RTS... But if you think about it, this limitation it's not a bad thing - at least we are safe from COD style money leechers trying to get your bucks for the same thing over and over again.
The cringeworthy part of the code for me though is the Readme. Not sure how useful the code will be, and I think I will wait for it to be cleaned up a bit first.
This is a real gem well worth the price. It's not perfect by a long shot, but it packed in a lot of interesting ideas for its niche genre. The closest thing to Conquest is probably Sins of a Solar Empire, but Conquest is more up close and personal, like Warcraft.
How about full Windows 8 support?

I mistakenly bought this months ago thinking it could work on Windows 8. I still can't get it to work, and I don't feel like jumping through hoops. Make it easier for everyone.
Nice GOG added the source code for the game, but I'm not interested in this game.

You may have spotted the ulterior motive behind opening the source. :-P
Already have it here, but a good promo. Interesting move releasing the source, perhaps some enterprising fan will create a patched-up definitive release of the original, somewhat like what the combined System Shock 2 mods enable.

Well, if you're talking about the 16-bit components and directX, they can probably be replaced (like Arx Liberantis replaced graphics renderer, input-output system and sounds system) with open source variants, I'm sceptical about the usefullness of the code as I'm not entirely sure if it can be used for source code project. I don't think any individual would be proficient to make use of the code. Would have to ask someone in open source sceme what does entire license entail.
