We're giving away 100 games a day to our users to celebrate our 5th birthday!

For the last 5 years we've been doing our best to bring the best games in history to your home computers. Now, we're celebrating our birthday, and we want you--our users--to have a blast! That's why for the next five days we'll be giving away 100 games a day via our different channels (the forums, social media, YouTube). The details of each giveaway will be revealed on day to day basis, so make sure to drop by daily and see what are we up to.

So, we heard you like puzzles and trivia? Let's have some more of that, shall we? Today, our giveaway is once again forum-based, but requires some gaming knowledge and puzzle-solving skill. We present, the GOG.com B-Day crossword puzzle!

GOG.com 5th B-Day Crossword Puzzle

As you may have noticed, this isn't your regular crossword puzzle. You'll need not only guess what the correct words are, but also where do they go in the diagram. If you manage to get enough of them right, you'll be able to figure out the secret password. Send an email with the said password with the subject line CROSSWORD to contest@gog.com. Out of all the people who do this, we'll pick 100 users who will be sent a $9.99 gift-code.You have time until tomorrow, that's Friday, October 4, at 2:59PM GMT to send us your answer and enter the giveaway, as at that time we'll be moving to another communications channel with a new set of rules.

EDIT:
Have you participated in one of our 5th birthday contests, but are still waiting for its conclusion? We're a bit overwhelmed by the number of entries, as this is the ongoing biggest series of giveaways in the whole of GOG.com history. Please be patient, well sort it all out, eventually, and everyone who was lucky enough to win something will be notified. Sorry for the delay!

Nice one. Had to scan through the catalogue a bit to search for games that fit into the ones I could not guess... hope it was worth the effort :-)

cannard: Sent, wasn't as difficult as I had originally feared. I wonder what significance the password holds...

I have to say that in some instances that process of elimination had to guide me to certain answers as a few of the hints were too vague to be of use ("selected!" I'm looking at you... I think I know what the connection to its game answer is but I would disagree that that... ahem, is the correct word used for the game...)
"Selected!" is the only clue that still makes no sense after you identify the game, even after reviewing the game page and doing a google search. All of the other clues make sense once you do one of those two things, even if you haven't played them. [Edit: unless you consider looking at reviews four pages deep, and even then it's weak]

I'm also kind of disappointed that they changed the rules after I started the puzzle as I thought I had a chance to make it in the first 20.

I'm glad I worked out all of the games because when I had it down to only two missing letters, I was about to guess the wrong answer.

It's the first time I have no idea of how to solve one of these celebration puzzles. I look at the thing, I get nothing, I quit, then few minutes later I look at the thing again... quite entertaining. :D

Heh, thanks for the review mention. I spent last 15 minutes staring at it and trying to figure out how does the clue and answer have something in common. :-)
I knew it can't be wrong game thanks to some revealed letters but I wasn't able to figure out the connection.
Good quest, but I have to gave up this time. :(
Impossible to finish if you don't know the games already. I knew only 3 and have nothing to hold onto to find out what the rest of them are.
Finally did it. I had no idea that the "horny cat" game even had a cat. I found the password and just browsed the catalogue to find a game that had those letters... :D
Monster challenging stuff. I can't even solve the ones in newspapers xP

That was my experience as well, except I wasn't sure about the second letter -- had it narrowed down to two possibilities.

Not true. I had played only 3 of them, but Wikipedia, YouTube, fiddling with letters, adding all the GOG games from the catalog to an Excel sheet and sorting them in various ways, all added up so I could answer all the questions.

So don't give up to quickly.
I have to say though, it would be nice if you (GOG staff) guys had a better format for this kind of puzzles next year. Perhaps something where we could type in the missing letters? I don't know if I did it wrong, but since I have no printer, I solved the crossword in ms paint and the result is a horrific mess. I'll upload the pic tomorrow for a laugh.
Completed at 2 minutes to midnight. Whew - I was just about to give up.
that was hard, but finnaly sent it!
and again happy birthday GOG!!!

OH MY GOD! I finally figured the whole thing out! Unbelievable how clever the hints are, got me stuck for a moment. The horny cat creeped me out, btw. Damn good crossword.
Took me a while but i got all of the titles and the password. Now for the easy part: winning a gift-code. *fingers crossed*
