Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if this has been covered. I've had a search and couldn't find this issue.

I recently signed up without knowing you get a bunch of awesome games, for free!

Annoyingly, whenever I try installing games using the GOG exe file that get's downloaded, it always stops at some point with the error code in the title.
It's always the same error code, but the filename quoted on the error is always different.

After trying many times, I did eventually manage to get Steel Sky installed, but after trying a LOT, I can't get Teen Agent or Lure to install.

I've tried downloading the exe files both with and without the GOG downloader.
I've also tried turning off my antivirus (BullGuard).
Neither of these seem to make a difference.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Marekski and welcome to the wonderful world of GOG!

Can I suggest you have a good look on the support pages to see if any of that applies to you, then if you still have problems you can always open a support ticket [url=http://www.gog.com/en/support/contact]Here. The staff here at GOG may take a little while to get to you, but are usually very helpful.

Hope you get your problems sorted asap - and enjoy the games!

This is probably your best bet. Too bad it didn't work. Are you sure you don't have any other scanner programs running?

The error you're getting seems to indicate that another program is accessing the file or folder the installer is trying to manipulate, which fits well with an antivirus or similar program.

Two things I've seen people say may solve this (apart from turning off their antivirus) is to install the program in safe mode, or install it to a different path than the default one. With GOG games, I'd recommend installing them outside the Program Files folders anyway, as many older games don't play nice with the modern protection schemes on those folders.

Marekski: (...)
What OS are you using, what directory are you trying to install it to, and is it on a FAT32 or NTFS partition?
Just as a tip from experience: I once had a busted memory stick that caused installs to fail on a regular basis when Windows wasn't BSODing on me. Worth consideration if you're out of ideas.

Also: Tried installing to and from a different hard drive?

Looks like changing directory AND turning off the antivirus seems to work.
It was originally putting things in the c:\program files (x86)\gog folder

Is this a common issue? Is there anything that GOG can do to avoid it? Like not default to Program Files at least?

I don't think it's common. At least I can't recall seeing anyone here with the same problem before (which is not to say it didn't happen).

And the problem with defaulting somewhere else is that there isn't really anywhere else. Most people install everything to the Program Files folder, because that's where Windows likes things to be installed, and so it's the default install path in nearly every installer for any kind of program. I like to install my games to C:\Games, but someone else might not want to install there, so using that as a default path is a bad idea. As long as people have the option to change the path in the installer, I'd say the current default path is the best solution all around.

Fair dos.

You're welcome :-)
I've had this problem as well. Turning off steam as well as antivirus and such has worked.
