Please tell me you do not need to make a Stardock account account for Galactic Civilization II and Galactic Civilization III to play multiplayer.

YAY! Thank you. Maybe I should of read the NEWS release, but shuffling through so many comments I just went ahead and made a topic which I hope becomes read by everyone on gog.com who is interested in purchasing more video games published by Stardock Entertainment and sold on gog.com.

Still, Thank You!

This is a pretty standard question on GOG (DRM-related), and is usually answered by one of the blues, so what I generally do is click on the cog beside the thread to pull up the blue posts. Saves wading through all the posts in the thread. It's how I found the answer to your question.
Be warned: Multiplayer is not listed on the store page for Galactic Civilizations II. This could be a mistake, or it could mean that the game does not have multiplayer on GOG.

EDIT: Misunderstood the original post. Checking on Steam, it looks like Galactic Civilizations II never had mutliplayer at all.

EDIT 2: Also, "for certain features of older games, such as Galactic Civilization II, you need an account. For example, In GalCiv2 posting game results requires a Stardock account. That's so we can associate your game results with your profile. If you don't want those game results recorded you don't need to register and can play the complete game."
