I remember my first head transplant.

Oh, to be young and in love once more!

Shadowstalker16: This will mean that a healthy brain can be transplanted onto a new body after heart or respiratory failure. This may the first step to immortality-abandoning bodies as they degrade and transplanting the brain and eyes onto a new one.
Check out Wes Craven's book "Fountain Society"....in it, he explores (in a fictional story) doing exactly that. I loved it.
Looking forward to 2017. R
Though I wonder how likely it will be to find a donor.
I remember almost being offered "head" when I was 16 years old whilst visiting Lord Howe Island; however the enjoyable encounter didn't go beyond tongue-wrestling, groping and grinding as the girl in question, who was older than me, thought that I was too innocent and did not wish to tarnish my virtue. I managed to tarnish it myself by running up over $100 worth of alcohol on my father's tab at the bar, after convincing them that I was allowed to drink with parental supervision, and then passing out by the tennis courts.
@ChaunceyK: will try to get my hands on it.

I think we need to be clear, transplanting a head onto another body will change the gender of the head, not the body. Gender and orientation are primarily governed by the sex organs; and unless the head comes from an LGBTQ person, it will become the same gender as that of the body by being affected by the body's hormones. So lets stop with this thing here instead of trying to make perfect bimbos.

I'm also thinking how the surgeons are going to connect neurons. That will possibly require microscope level attachment of individual nerve cells. This is even more important than making the heart work because if the neurons fails to connect with the rest of the body, our brave subject may be paralyzed yet again. Good luck to him.
If this works, it will change the whole world, really.

snowkatt: no i am not joking
it is real
http://uk.businessinsider.com/valery-spiridonov-head-transplant-2015-4?r=US

if it succeeds or not is a different question but if it does work this will be huge
and even if it fails it will still be huge because it could make huge strides in medical science
Seeing the latest posts, maybe the OP itself should be uodated ?

Hence the name Tarnicus was born!

justanoldgamer: There's a Heinlein story similar to this, I can't remember the title though.
I don't remember the Heinlein, but it's all sort of remniscent of John Scalzi's Old Man's War

with the upsurge in Alzheimer and dementia in aging populations I doubt we could do that without addressing the brains own limited timeline of shelf life.

the older I get the more I understand the wisdom of 'just because we can do something, doesn't mean we should.'

having worked in the tissue banking industry and witnessed myself worrying indications of purposely farmed prisoner of war cadaver material I can only say that if this actually works we will open the door to the most horrendous abuses from very rich, powerful and dare i say it .. evil personas seen. just think of those in power now and what they do to keep themselves in that realm today? then add the prospect of continuing that power thru several lifetimes? natch, they would keep it hushed up like they do with their special ordered and illegally procured organ transplants that is happening now.

Alas Tarnicus wasn't born until I started tongue-wrestling spells, groping a sword and grinding skills in the name of the 8 Virtues in Ultima Online back in 2000, but I did think of the link to my name when writing my first post. Well spotted :)

Indeed, the stuff which can happen would be unspeakably evil.Just imagine China; which already takes death sentenced prisoners organs may do with this technology. If this becomes possible, we may soon have the rich hunting and farming the poor for organs. Worse still is the human conditions that may make rich people want to change bodies on a whim.................it'll be like Deus Ex:HR in RL.
This shit is getting even funnier: http://gamingbolt.com/metal-gear-solid-5s-doctor-look-alike-planning-to-sue-kojima-for-using-likeness-and-theories
Fantastic,
a reporter I never heard of quotes a guy from reddit he never heard of to talk about a doctor we never heard of.
I love the interwebz.
I dunno if anyone else has thought of it and mentioned it in this thread already but I for one am looking forward to either "Head Transplant Simulator 201[56]" or Head Transplant DLC for Surgeon Simulator 2013. I mean, it is so obviously what needs to happen now that it isn't even funny, to the point where it's funny.

:)
