Reading the posts I made I recognized that I`m using the word "well" very often. But why is it so? Can somebody explain it to me?
Well, I hope at least I get a few answers here. If not, well, then I can still watch the football game tonight!

Maybe you're part Irish? It does tend to be a well used word in my homeland... ;)

Hmm, as far as I know I`m of bavarian origin. And the word "nun" (well) is not used very often in Bavaria. We have our own "fillwords".
Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?

I don't know. I tend to over use ellipsis (...) when typing on forums, not sure why but I've always done it.
Because it's easier to say "well", rather than "deep hole with water at the bottom" :)

Thank you for answering a question which nobody asked! :-)) Oh, by the well, uhm I mean by the way: How much water do you give per day?
Well, if you want to keep the secret you don`t have to manswer, but it would be nice to know how much water an average well gives per day.
Well, I guess this was way too off topic, right?

Is it? Well, the only thing I can say is that I use it whenever possible!

I have the same problem with well. I suppose that is useful for non-native speakers. Well... with football are you meaning soccer, right? tonight you can watch Argentina - Paraguay (Copa América) The winner goes to the final against Chile. 20:30 UTC -3

Well, hopefully you won't end up as one of the cops in this video.

Why do you need an explanation? Doesn't everyone have a few words they use more than others? I use "well" a lot too and another word I can't seem to avoid is "actually".

Maxvorstadt:
Can't it be somehow related to specific German mentality thinking perhaps? For example many of my ex colleagues from Germany used to say "genau" almost all the time. So what is your most using German word? Maybe we will get the answer :)
