tomimt: I actually starter another topic about this, but basically Replay needs 650k to add new area and a girl into the game. The current level is enough to add more interaction with environmenst and add additional jokes and stuff.

For me it´s a bit dishonest.

What technique ? asking money for a game/feature/whatever is what Kickstarter is about. They are asking 500'000$ to make a certain game, for 150'000$ they can make more than what they originally planed.

If they were asking peoples to increase their pledge to be able to benefit from the extra content (or sell it as a DLC) then I would agree with you, but here I don't really see what's wrong.

How is it dishonest or extortion, if everyone knows from the start, that in order to get more content in the game they need more money than in making 1:1 remake?

"Thanks for the pledges, but if you want to see X in the game, pay just a little more!"

Also, does adding a new girl to the game cost *exactly* $150,000?

It's not "you" who have to pay more, it's just that more budget means more stuff. If you only paid 15$ you will still get the game with the extra stuff.

There are four girls in the games which means roughly 160'000$ per girls, so yes one more for 150'000$ sounds right.

Also don't forget that even if that seem "big" 650'000$ is a ridiculous budget for a "professional" game. (professional as in where you actually pay a normal salary for your artist/devs/etc...)

Empty wallets, seriously, I just had several KS projects fund in the last 6 weeks and it's not an insignificant amount of money. Also, a lot of people feel like they've paid enough for projects and want to see if these things happen before kicking more cash down the table at devs.

It's not going to cost exactly $150k, for one thing, the goal was an additional $100k from $550k. For another thing, it's not just creating her, there's writing involved and QA involved and any money that they don't spend on that will be spent on other parts of the game. The girl being added was encouragement and to tell the backers what they would be funding if they got more money.

Extortion would be if they now decided that they won't add her unless they get One miiilion dollars.

Now that LSL is funded and I've maxed out my pledges elsewhere, I'm not going to be looking at any more KS campaigns unless I've already started looking.

There's some cool projects, but I'm not giving any money to projects that have their funding and the last couple are ones that are likely not to meet their goals. Although, I hope they do as they're cool projects.

They don't force anyone to do anything. They let the people decide do they want new content or not. If the money is not rised, then it's not done. Beside, in the case of if the goal wasn't met, the already had promised, that they'd make up for it by using presales money.

Then there's the other thing, Amazon and Kickstarter both take their cut from the Kickstarter money, which is around 5% each. Then they also need to actually pay for the loot that comes with the upper tiers, so that's close to 100k right there.
it will be interesting to see how the space quest kickstarter does, compared to the LSL kickstarter...

This game only succeeded because of Al Lowe.

Corrected: Not game but project.

Some posts on Paul Trowe's twitter about larry remake discussions. It seems that they are going to be making all new puzzles for this game.

Looks like its not so much of remake and more of a re-imagining

I think what happened there was they planned to do a remake, but as they exceeded their goal they managed to find money to expand a bit and the backers demanded a new female character be added to the game.

But, I'm guessing it will follow the same basic plot as the original did as that's what they have a license to do.
