Interestingly, after Replay introduced a new reward tier, the amount of pledged $$ has really picked up. Perhaps the existing tiers didn't encourage sales enough.

Looks like Larry might even make $600-700K. We can only hope.

They tend to get more and more people ever day, but it is fairly impressive how few people they're getting while still getting the funding they need.

It's a shame that a mod kit for LSL would make no sense at all as that seems to really get people throwing money at the developers like mad.

Actually, that's not a bad idea at all. How can we propose this to Al?

A mod kit where you can design your own babes or NPCs. Or puzzles or episodes, I don't know.

There already is a mod kit its called Adventure Games Studio

I hope this kickstarter succeeds, not so much to see a LSL1 remake but to encourage the making/re-making of other sierra classics.

One question though, why can some people remake Kings Quest 1-3 and Quest for Glory 2 for free in top quality while replay need a lot of money to remake Larry?

While it is indeed a great job, you cannot call a remake with amateur actor voice-overs and 320x200 graphics 'top quality'.

King's Quest remakes could not even graphically and sonically compare to 1996's Love for Sail, let alone the current HD remake, which looks absolutely stunning. I mean, just think about the difference in what you see and hear. Try to translate that into production values then. It will all make sense.

That's not really a mod kit as the term is usually used or I meant it. I had forgotten about it though, I know there are some pretty good games that use it.

I think the odds are quite a bit better. LSL isn't my favorite Sierra game series, but it was quite good if for no other reason than offending the more prudish out there.

From what I understand there are already other folks who worked at Sierra talking about that, but no formal announcements and I doubt that any firm plans have been made. I think just the current showing has been enough to get them contemplating the idea.

Also, I don't think those other games had to pay to license the Trademarks and such that the current project is paying for.

Good point. I really liked the retro charm of the low res graphics though.
The problem isn't the graphics - it's sounds, music and voice. I find that most indie games stumble in that area and jam in uninspiring audio that really doesn't feel polished at all.

Take the Blackwell series - great visuals, good stories but HORRIBLE voices. And even if the voices weren't sounding so tacky, the actual recording quality leaves a lot to be desired, sounding like they used a $5 PC mic.

Because of all this, I still insist that it's better to not have voices at all unless you can get quality people to do them. Back in the early days of CD releases, you had some really horrible voices as well, cheaply done by the programmers and family before games became big budget affairs and employed real actors. Or there was a mix of proper actors and cheap amateur voices which were completely unsuitable alongside the professional ones.

For starters they had no time line and no pressure to get it done. And secondly, they really did do all the work as a hobby. No one got paid for doing KQ remakes, so you really can't compare them to a genuine business venture.
Seems to be pretty close to its goal with 12 days to go still, I imagine it will make the cut.

My theory is that the recent crappy games in the franchise have turned off some people to the name.

If anything, the opposite should be true - people who saw LSL get dragged through the mud would love for the game to get a proper sequel. The problem here, is that it aims at fans of the original game and how does a remake appeal to them? A real sequel would have gotten my money in a heartbeat but just a re-visitation of a game I've already completed several times (and any LSL fan will have too) doesn't seem as interesting to me.

Personally I am not very interested in a remake of LSL1, it never was my favorite in the series anyway, however the possibility of having later remakes of the others games is definitely more interesting to me. Of course a real sequel would have been better but remakes of the whole series (the worthwhile episodes of course) is good enough for now.
Larry seems to be doing just fine with almost 10000 backers despite the project being a second remake.

Meanwhile, Jane Jensen's project has fewer than 3000 backers while she is offering new, original products. She should have at least 10000 people pledging to support her project.

Jane's project is gonna make it as well, she has a lot of time and she's over half way all ready. The problem her picth had in the beginning though is, that she really didn't present any clear image of what she was going to do. The promise of three games was very vague and I still think the concept would need some clearing up, like if the games take longer than year to produce, do the higher backers still get all three and so on.

Will have to agree with tomimt. Jane's project could have been promoted better. I think she must have confused some people with the idea of CSG and the three games.

That being said, it will be great to have Jane working in adventure gaming once again.

By the way, did anyone notice how much money LSL has made since yesterday? Almost $420,000 at the moment and counting. Insane. Good work.
