2) it's a remake, not a new game, and LSL1 is probably not the favourite in the series.
3) they ask for more money than Tim Schafer asked for, which was for a completely new game and not a remake.
4) gaming marmite. Some people just don't like Larry, other people still thinks of the Larry series as a juvenile sex game that only pimple-faced teenagers find fun (these people don't get it), and there's also a lot of people who absoluty love the series.
5) perhaps one of the biggest reasons is that the Larry name has been sullied by two unrelated and horrible "sequels", not made by Al Lowe, and there are a lot of people who only know Larry from those games.
I funded the game, but only because I love Larry, and Al Lowe is a great guy. I also did it to show that there's still a market for Larry, and I'd really really love to see a remake of the whole series (Larry 3 is one of my favourite games of all time, and I can't wait to see a remake of that. Larry 2 needs a lot of work to "fix" the bad design decisions... like the numerous easily encountered dead-ends in the late game because you didn't pick up something in the very beginning of the game).
