And the paragraphs are there for fleshing out the story, not the combat. The distance thing is also very weak because you have very little control over it - in Fallout you'd take a few steps closer and shoot and get an accuracy idea. In Wasteland you can't even SEE the distance except at the start and you can only "run" (which is very confusing to do) or "shoot", not both. Face it, Wasteland's combat is very shallow in essence.
I stand by what I said: this is a game remembered for its setting and approach, not its combat. The combat has now aged terribly if you ask me, overshadowing the positives.
