Ulver Perdition City
Gaither Vocal Band - I Heard It First On The Radio
Herbert 'Das Boot' Groenemeyer - Unbewohnt
and Zum Meer.

Groenemeyer (in particular his "Mensch" album) is the one with whom I shatter people's prejudices against german music.

Thanks both of you - I looked this link up and really enjoy this so far - Going to have to look for more.

Currently listening to Perdition City. ;-)
Renaud's slang and occasional play on expressions is very hard to translate, and even more to convey. So, here is the general idea of his "Le petit chat est mort".

Don't go crying
He was strolling, easy
He had no collar
He was free to go
And to come back to eat
He wasn't even prisoner
Of your insane love

You wouldn't have liked
Him to live like an ass
On the couch
Far from the gutters, the pigeons
He was an adventurer
You wouldn't have wanted us to tie him down
He'd have meowed you "death to pigs"

The little cat is dead
He fell from the rooftop, that's how it is
He slipped on I don't know what, and boom
We'll bury him tomorrow I swear
In a pretty shoe box

The little cat is dead
And you and me we're doing so-so
Because of what, because it's always like this
Why is it always the little cats
And never the men, who fall from the rooftops

He was a true fleabag
Even more free than a dog
Not the kind who, for a little sugar cube
Would be licking your hand
But freedom, you see,
Is not without dangers, this is why
You don't often see it in the streets or on the roofs

He was a real street urchin
The terror of little birds,
At nights he made himself grey
To crunch them all warm
It's a tad bastardy
But haven't you ever eaten a sparrow
It's not worse than a macburger

The little cat is dead
He fell from the rooftop, that's how it is
He slipped on I don't know what, and boom
We'll go tomorrow to a garden
To bury him at the feet of a tree made of wood

The little cat is dead
And you and me we're doing so-so
Because of what, because we're really wondering why
We never see a pope on the rooftops
Being too close to the heavens, maybe they don't like that
Weird Al - Everything you know is wrong

Looks like we scored up another convert, Bard! :D My personal Ulver recommendation, Lou, is Blood Inside. If you like Perdition City then it's a relatively safe bet you're going to like that one too. Be aware that anything pre-1999 tends towards metal of the black variety. Very different group back then.
