kud13: Finally decided it was time to throw some money at DeadState (been following that ever since I heard VTMB people were involved) and now I'm thinking about Cult as well...
dammit, this is why I should not read this thread.
Cult does look pretty impressive doesn't it. It's only a shell of a game, (well not even a shell at the moment) but the potential is mind boggling.
Resurrect ADOM development launched at IndieGoGo. 48000$ goal is pretty hefty and it uses Kickstarter like Fixed Funding model (Project receives funding only if goal is reached.). Project has already acumulated around 15% of it's funding on first day with 59 days to go.
Note that pledges are more like donations as new version of ADOM will still be free for everyone on release.
Sooo who wants hard bound printed version (around 10 big tomes) of ADOM source for 50 000$? :-p

$48k for a rogue-like is a huge amount of money, especially considering that they're not starting a new project.

True and I don't even see any features that they could possibly sink that kind of money on even if he plans to hire 3 people to help. I mean quite few games on kickstarter ask for far less and most of them have development teams of at least 2-3 people. Still the campaign is going surprisingly strong all things considered, especially for IndieGoGo campaign. It has acumulated over 800$ more past 5 hours.

I would assume that they'll pour any extra money into further development, but I can't imagine how the features they're talking about are going to cost them $48k when they've been doing it without the funding up until now.
Don't get me wrong, I wish them luck, I'm just puzzled at what they expect to cost them that sort of money.
I won't be backing it, but that's largely because it's on Indiegogo and I don't really go with them just because they take the money immediately.

It's hobby project done on spare time so development has been 'free'. Now they seem to plan to work on it part/full time.

Well, wages for 4 people would eat up the money pretty fast. I just can't see any features that would take months of full time development unless they actually plan to turn it into graphical roguelike with sound and music.

Even with Fixed funding model? Oh and I just noticed he plans to open source it so that's probably one of the reasons it's going so well. We'll have wait and see if it lasts. I don't plan to donate but I do wish them best though.
I discovered this band when browsing bandcamp a few months ago and think they're awesome. You can check their music out on bandcamp: http://danceforthedying.bandcamp.com/
So I really hope their fundraiser takes off. Note that it is Flexible Funding campaign meaning they will receive all money pledged regardless whether they make their goal. (Yes they can have my money regardless... :D)
According to IndieGoGo's Refund page on Fixed Funding:
"Contributions made to any fixed funding campaign will be refunded in full if the campaign has not met its funding goal by its deadline. Contributors will receive these refunds in their PayPal account within 5 days after the campaign's end."
So IndieGoGo charge you immediately and refund you later if the fixed funding project fails. But refunds only go to a Paypal account according to them, which stinks in my view - how about people who don't/can't use Paypal?
Dead State is finishing in a few hours' time so anyone interesting in a zombie-apocalypse PC-RPG developed by a couple of ex-Troika/Obsidian staff should check it out soon.
I'd also like to flag up Rat Race - a card game based on office politics that closes tomorrow. Your boss has put in his notice - can you make yourself look good (or better yet, make your co-workers look bad) enough to replace him?
It needs $5,500 funding and a copy only costs $25 (plus $15 shipping for overseas backers). The card artwork alone should raise a chuckle and who can resist a laugh at office politics?

I just heard about this project and I think it's pretty amazing that Thomas Biskup is considering to resurrect ADOM.
I agree with hedwards that the campaign goal seems pretty high for the features that have been revealed so far. However - and that's a _huge_ however - when I consider how many hours I've spent enjoying this game, I consider the pledge partly to be a payment for services delivered long ago.
ADOM was released at a time when micropayment didn't exist yet. There was no way he could have been (successfully) asking for donations back then, but he can now, and I simply think he deserves it. If a new and improved ADOM comes out of it, all the better.
