If you don't mind the client, you can try it free for 1 hour on Bigfish - http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/1705/discord-times/index.html
You can actually get the full version of it from MyPlayCity
(probably not the Collectors Edition).
Best way is to unpack the installer (it's made with INNO setup) and make your own shortcut. This way you avoid any unpleasant side effects like toolbars or your browser opening every time you exit the game.
Thanks both, I'll give it a try ASAP :D
It's all about marketing. People don't normally care to suss out good projects. They usually depend on word of mouth, without committing any effort into researching its background. I admit even I get easily excited about a project that markets itself really well. Marketing is really the key to successful funding; everything else, including a prototype, is a subset of it.
For that matter, check out Dark Meridian
. It's also quite well-developed, but have you heard a whisper about it other than on this thread? I bet if the team made the effort to really market the project, rather than just create a KS page and hope people visit it, they'd easily hit $50K.
It sucks for LoE that they haven't gotten much up till now, but really, the same can be said for a lot of other good projects. If you don't get the public hyped up about your product right from the get go to build momentum, or there is misinformation, then you risk failing. It's a very ostentatious market.
With so many developers jumping on the Kickstarter momentum, there's surely some improvements to be made on their projects. Like the "We don't want to pay for a PR guy, but we need one".
Because usually developers don't care about PR / marketing, it's publisher's job. An overcharged job according to Swen Vincke
's blog, but still a required one.
Until indie dev' find a way to efficiently self-market their games, word to mouth and "social networking" are essential. And forums threads like this one :D
I hope the next video from Aterdux
showing some gameplay of Legends of Eisenwald will help.
