Note that the armor represented the health level, being hurt would remove armor pieces and ultimately the guy would just run around in his undies, a bit like in this pic.

Yeah, but in this game the protagonist is a real macho - never wear anything to cover his torso ;) And yes, the main quest is to rescue a beautiful woman ;)
