Licurg: Sacrifice - it's not an RPG, but you'll love it .
And it is 1920x1080 out of the box.
We, well okay I, give Licurg a lot of shit but what tends to get lost in that is the fact that Sacrifice is enigmatic, beautiful, fun, and most important affordable.
Torchlight

XDroide626: Okay so I have been looking at a new game to purchase, and seeing as newer games are becoming worse and worse, classics is what I am looking at, so I am looking at a RPG game, with a good story and mechanics, that provides a good amount of hours playtime.
What could you suggest to me, I like games like Diablo, Skyrim and Fallout, what would be best?

Thanks!

drealmer7: When you say Fallout, do you mean 1+2 or 3+NV? The reason I ask is because games like Diablo, Skyrim, and Fallout 3+NV are more action/FPS roleplaying games than "classic" RPGs like the first two Fallout games, Baldur's Gate, Torment, etc. If you're used to/expecting things to play more like an action/FPS RPG it takes a little getting used to other more RP heavy RPGs and their systems. It's not hard to get used to/learn, it is just different and you shouldn't go into a bunch of the classics "expecting" to know how they play/to play them. If what you want is more in line with action/FPS RPGs, you will get one list of recommendations. If you want more "classic" RPG suggestions, that will get you another list. If you are open to both, of course it will be a bigger list.
I have played FO1 and 3+NV but I enjoyed 3 more than any, and I also like RPG games like FF8 etc
I hate threads like this. It always winds up being a long list of games I need to play/play again.

XDroide626: ...
Then I suggest these:

System Shock
Inquisitor
Gothic series
Deus Ex
Anachronox
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
Lionheart
Stonekeep
Sacred Gold
Jade Empire

but I'd also refrain from calling these "classic RPGs", to me, that is a different genre/list of games entirely.

If you like Diablo-style games, then one title - albeit current-Indie rather than classic - you might want to take a look at is "Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms".
Wasteland 2 is great from the newer ones. Halfway through and I'm enjoying it a lot. It reminds me a bit of Fallout Tactics, but in a good way.
I would recommend watching some Let's Plays on Youtube to see if a game might suit you. Some games you should check out are:

Deus Ex is good, although it's not an RPG. It's a story-driven FPS with RPG elements. You gain skill points for completing objectives (main quest or optional side quests) and for exploring. You can also install augmentations to your body that give you special abilities, but those abilities use energy. Your skills and augmentations determine how you approach your objectives. It's highly replayable because you can use different combinations of skills and augmentations and many players still discover new things on each playthrough. The recommendation is only for Deus Ex 1. Deus Ex 2 is bad. Deus Ex 3 is a fine game, but it's not old, and it's different enough from Deus Ex 1 that it needs to be considered separately.

Treasure Adventure Game is a free game on GOG that's worth trying. It's not that old, and is a very linear RPG, but it's immensely fun and underrated. Since it's free, you lose nothing in giving it a go.

Titan Quest is a Diablo 2 clone that improves on Diablo 2 in many ways. You don't pick a character class at the start, but as you level up you pick up to two "masteries" that determine your class, and then you pick skills from those masteries, just like in Diablo 2. It's not available on GOG but is available on Steam. The game's story is based on Greek mythology. I found it more fun than Torchlight.

Unepic is a 2D dungeon exploring RPG. Like Treasure Adventure Game, it's not old, and the story is very linear, but your character is fully customisable in the skills you choose. It's fun, and replayability comes from using different character builds.

Darklands is a true old school RPG. You explore a fantasy version of medieval Germany. Fantasy being a medieval Germany where all the mythologies are real, like dragons, dwarves and witches. Skills level up through use, although you can hire trainers. It's completely open-world - you go where you want and do what you want, complete the quests you want. There is a main quest that you can do, but you have to discover and progress it on your own. It's very different to the games you said you like, though, so there's a chance you might not like it.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a risky recommendation. Some hate it, some love it. It's a linear, story-driven FPS with RPG elements. You get skill points as you progress through the game and upgrade the skills you want to use, effectively building your character. The skill trees are melee, archery and magic, and while you can mix and match, specialising is recommended. The combat plays like Skyrim''s, although the skills aren't as epic as Skyrim's. What really makes the game special, though, is the character's boot. You can kick enemies off cliffs and into spike traps and set oil on fire. The focus is on using the game environment to kill enemies. It was buggy when first released, but is pretty stable now, but too late to restore its popularity. It's by the same studio that made Dishonored. Not much replayability, unfortunately, except sometimes you just want to kick orcs into spikes. Currently not available on GOG but it is available on Steam.
