Just finished Samurai by John Man. It's a book about Saigo Takamori and the Satsuma rebellion in Japan.

I'm quite learned in western knowledge and history, but I'm totally lost when it comes to eastern history, so I'm trying to correct that.

WarlockLord: "Dracula - Prince of Many Faces" by Radu R. Florescu & Raymond T. McNally. It's a biography of the real historical Dracula (Vlad the Impaler). Pretty interesting stuff.
I have that book! Good stuff!

My girlfriend and I are reading outloud to each other currently from the newly released and redone

The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm: The Complete First Edition

They are extremely entertaining. Told very matter of fact with practically no writing style or flavor. Put aside the renditions you've heard before and prepare for a completely new experience!
Recently finished Andy Weir's "The Martian". IMHO one of the best books I've read in months (no surprise, I read mostly technical literature:D). Read in in one try, in eight hours or so. Highly recommend, Good text, humour, a bit of geek stuff.
Finished reading this Italian edition of The Wrath of the Mummy (original title: L'Amant de la Momie), by Anthony Wylm. 2/5, I paid too much for that.

Zombies and Calculus by Colin Adams. I'm just starting it so I can't comment on how good or bad it is.
I just finished reading 50 shades of gray.

Does that make me weird?

If you liked it, perhaps it could mean you are a brainless sheep who doesn't know good writing in the slightest.
Finished reading this Italian edition of One in Three Hundred by James McGregor, also known as J. T. McIntosh. 3/5, classic sci-fi from the Fifties.
Started the Thomas Covenant series. Liking the first book so far.
The Greatest Knight, by Asbridge. It's about the life of William Marshal. I strongly recommend it.
