New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

Fresher? Definetly.

Better? Partly.

Responsive design is a good start. The overall design changes are... -- well, one has to get used to it first, before an unbiased opinion can be posted. :) However, what I am still missing is a link to the forums on the product pages! Meh! I usually check out others' opinion first, before I buy a title, or I want to see if there are knows issues on certain system configurations. I know there is already a suggestion for this, so please, GOG staff, add this to the product pages.

GOG, please make the top bar smaller. Shrink it. You can keep the design, but it shouldn't take up so much space. Every single button now takes up WAY too much screen space (seriously... compare this to any other website, it's pretty ridiculous).

Ingsoc85: Are you sure? I have a unused Torchlight code and it seem no longer valid.
I've got one that seems to be okay, but I think an unused Witcher code has gone missing, along with giveaway codes from the Summer Sale where I already owned the freebies.

Alterego1972: Hello IAmSinistar, I can test your code. Happy for the new GOG, unhappy for all the games that are removed.
Code sent, let us know if there's actually anything there.

I'll be snapping up bundle codes for the games going away. I assume they will be good after the games are pulled, better check with a bluetext first though.

expopower: Has anyone had a problem with previously unused gift codes? I had one for Torchlight which I was positive hadn't been used yet, but it was removed from my list in the update.

Luckily, I had a backup list. Attempting to redeem it while logged in yields "Invalid Code", logging out and doing the same gives "Temporarily Locked". Is it just me? (Or just for the freebies distributed?)
All of mine are gone. except for one weird one with 0 games sent.

real.geizterfahr: I think support will have a lot to do with fucked up gift codes -.- Just three things I noticed:

3. Grabbed the Torchlight freebie as a gift code and can't find it in my list. Not a big problem since I wanted to get rid of it anyway, but... You know...
My gift codes are gone too.

gandalf.nho: Guess the "no regional price" guys won, but at the same time GOG lost a lot of good games with that...
Yeah, I would prefer user get the choice to buy it at a higher price or not at GOG. If the user don't think the price is fair just don't buy it or wait for a sales.

But take the choice away and make everyone unable to purchase it at GOG no matter what, I don't understand the logic. Is like if I don't like to buy apples from a certain store, I force everyone else unable to buy it. Still I hope the majority of GOG users are happy with their choice and think of the consequence in their future endeavor.
Well this explains why I got a error page earlier. I'm not sure what I think of the revamp visually though I like the changes under the hood. I like also that there are now videos though I already have some on Steam/HumbleBundle/Vudu (I think that's the last one) so not sure I'll pick any up or not.
Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.
And where's Maestro card as a payment option ?
Yup, I lost Torchlight. I'm sure the 0 games one is Fallout. At least they could have gotten rid of those from the list. Although I don't like the fact I cannot check who redeemed my code now.

It's not really a "better" GOG when one of the more active publishers here open to frequent sales and bringing quality titles pulls out due to sudden unexpected disagreement. It's unclear how these changes will improve the site in the long haul with outcomes like that. Instead we get... niche indie films?!?

Any way to change the tab menu bar color to something else - this is just too bright for me. Otherweise nice update although some stuff is broken at the moment. The website keeps crashing to text only all the time now.

Why does pressing on search button throw me on another webpage - I was expecting a slide down search option. Ah, well it will have to do.

Also please fix the search bar so that it will show the games I already own when im looking at games with the same name like Spellforce series. Now I have to press on everyone to see if I already own them all.

Also please mark the games I own on the game description page. I can't know about every game I own.

Edit: After using the website I can say that its very slow and not very likable and very cold looking. The old website looked better and please get rid of the Microsoft tile design. I think people have spoken about hatting tiles enough times already. Could you just give us an option to use the old website or just change the colours of the website. I really don't know what you were thinking about but this website works even slower on mobile phones then before by my expirience.

And personally most users just expected you to add more features to the site and not change it fundamentally that was all we wanted but you did not add any of those features that were asked for which is another thing I saw.

And seems like now you can choose what to redeem in a code...
... or am I just imagining things.

Not yet used to things - BUT please do consider these:

1) I would like to see on the games page if i own it or not. Too tedious to go to library and check from there.

2) Search. Search button sucks - the old way of having search window where you type a games name and dont have to click anything and yet you see the games AND if you own them or not, is like 1000^10 superior.

3) Gifts. I no longer see who has redeemed which gift. I only see "sent" gifts. Could you please return the "gift history"? Its very useful.

Adding movies is interesting.

I would however be more interested in music. Add everything from "Cryo Chamber" here please, already drm free but you know, like to have all eggs in one basket :D
