New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

ChrisSD: Hi, I'd like to report a bug, has anyone else had this?.

On the checkout page I put in my card details and click the payment button. It turns into a spinning animation and then... it just keeps spinning. A few minutes later and still spinning. I still have it open in a tab and it's still spinning now.

My order went through fine (I know because I'm downloading a new game as I type) however the checkout page doesn't seem to realise this. it's not a major bug but it is a bit annoying as I was sat twiddling my thumbs for awhile because I thought it was still processing.

FYI: I'm using FIrefox 31.
Yes indeed as other folks have reported similar issues with their recent purchases on GOG as well in this thread:

HeDanny: The greyscale feels more distinguished. Classy. Classic. Respectful. Like watching a Humphrey Bogart movie. Like reading a well looked after hard bound copy of a book. Greyscale is true timeless class. Greyscale is a pair of flannelette PJs and a mug of hot choccy. Warm. Friendly. Comfortable. Familiar like an old friend. How is that not a good fit for GOG?
Not sure if you're being serious. If yes, have you opened any of the News pages? Humphrey Bogart would be sad to star in such a movie.

Gydion: Problem is still too much color. You need this.
That actually does give it a more classic feel to it. ;-)

Thanks! I refreshed the page and it took me to the order completed page. I haven't yet got the confirmation email though.

The only thing missing is some light grain over the images. Impressive for just 7 lines of code though.
So gog.com guys, weekend is over, I hope you had a fine one, we had to look at this the whole time... I wonder what will happen the next days. Hopefully some urgent adjustments with the design and UI, till you give us back the outfit and functionality of the "moldy, worse" GOG.com. ;P

I think what bugs me the most with the new site design is that using the Chrome browser, the mouse cursor does not change when rolled over a clickable item.

Another smaller thing is that it seems that the "wishlisted" indicator is missing from games on the promo list page.

Finally, very minor personal preference, the whole color scheme seems kind of washed out and bland to me. Probably due to the "muted" images. Anyhow, I don't really like it, but no big deal.

Still love GOG though. Thanks for everything at the core that you people are doing.
I'm not sure if this UI bug was already reported, but it's quite annoying. When any notifications show up in the "Account", it just shows the number to the right of the "ACCOUNT" word, but when you hover over it it, there are no pointers inside, so user would have no clue what exactly it indicates (new message, forum replies, updates games or whatever). It's way more confusing than the old UI which pointed exactly to what the notification was about. I'm using Firefox 31 / Debian testing x86_64. It doesn't seem to be related to Adblock Plus or any other add-ons, so it must affect more than just me I suppose.

It's a bug on legacy pages (like the forum or support page). As a temporary fix you can install stylish and my script:
https://userstyles.org/styles/104880/fix-gog-notifications

For details see:

I just noticed whenever the name of this site is typed, it's always capitalized as "GOG," but clearly the logo shows it as "gog," and always has. I've also seen people use "GoG," which is just silly. :p

I don't know why I brought this up, maybe that means it's time to go to bed...

Thanks, I added that Stylish workaround, so far I have no notifications, but hopefully it will work until GOG fixes it.

Let me know how it goes!
A quick heads up for people writing game reviews here on GOG: The character has been increased from 1500 characters to 2000 characters, a nice improvement!

It worked, thanks!
So since this was supposedly made as a mobile website I was trying to use it on my android smarthphone and there is one mayor issue there (using android browser) - since the website is made for all possible devices it automatically expands to fit a particular screen - the problem is that that programming is not used on the gog login screen which expands out of the screen on the right side of the screen so its not possible to login ever. Also there are some graphical glitches on the top menu bar turning colour to darky grey and the logo becoming light grey. And as usual the currency change button does not work at all.

I suppose I have steamed off my dissatisfaction with this website enough times already so I won't do that anymore. Fix it and insert all the features that the old one had and we shall be appeased but there will never be the same satisfaction I and most of us had with using the old website. Also one thing I never mentioned before - especially the game description pages are very dull and unappelling - before I used to scroll a lot through them and now not at all since they are very dull and hard to navigate.

Anyway hope the webpage brings you more Steam users for which this was obviously made.

Another bug. Now GOG have added an RSS feed to the site (or was it there before? I didn't notice). feed://www.gog.com/frontpage/rss

However it's not detected by the browser (how usually it detects it by placing the feed icon in the URL bar, or at least Firefox used to do that and classic theme restorer still does). GOG doesn't follow the RSS convention.

In order to enable it, there should be for example such element in the page:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="GOG RSS" href="https://www.gog.com/frontpage/rss" />
