I have a few friends (some unemployed) who have asked me several times about good games, games you have to have played, etc.
So over time I have mentioned some games, even tried to give them some. During the TW2 giveaway last year I actually had to convince 1 to redeem that damn code I gave him. For some reason he was interested but reluctant. Even when I explained to him GOG gave it for free, he still had to be convinced to redeem a code of a game he was interested in.
Over time I've tried to get him and others to grab some games here. But no luck.

Some times, people don't know what is good for them. At other times, they simply won't take it from someone else, if they don't discover it all by themselves. You did your part. Let them to their devices...

Interesting account, thank you for posting this. I can somewhat relate to it in the sense that whenever I experience some nice games, I have to always keep in mind that my friends are not as interested in certain genres, and thus it would be pointless talk to them about it. I am also not the best at convincing others to try unfamiliar titles, so that works against me with discussions as well. They may like a franchise, like Elder Scrolls for their role playing fix, but as soon as I mention a game like Gothic, they are already tuning out. They may even hear me out, but it won't be looked into. It helps to show gameplay videos to assist in my discussion, but some are more reluctant to branch out regardless. Still, it's better they know than not in the hopes that one game sticks out enough for them to look into. Sometimes mentioning that it's console exclusive kills the thought of talking about it too depending on their situation. :p

Posting links is super easy for bots to scrape. If you don't want spammers getting keys, links are not a good option.

I've found that playing a game in front of someone is the best tactic. People tend to forget what they've heard or seen, but playing it a bit and then letting them try it works really well. People remember what they do.

My real life friends have very different tastes than me in gaming. Pixel Art graphics, complex RPGs, most indie, games that have a story with lots of reading and lore, and of course turn based games - these are all out of the question for them (and apply highly to me).

All they want to see is FLASHY graphics, mindless fps shooters and big budget stuff you get the picture. They don't care about DRM or not as long as they play the game. This is how most of the Maltese gaming community is anyway.

This is why I mostly stick to myself and don't bother most of the time, there's just no point to it.

Not using things like GA in the title or giveaway in the text should avoid most of them.

We all live in different towns and some of us work on different hours and days than the others. Getting all of us together for a regular drink is hard enough already.
I gave them the GOG gamepage and some additional info. Some of my friends don't play games much, others do. Those who do play regularly mostly play shooters, RPGs or casual games. Though more often on a console than a pc. I expected them to at least want S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. I also expected the girlfriend of 1 of them to want SimCity.
