falloutttt: You mean you bought the game, or avoided it ? :D
I bought it of course. ;)
I doubt I would have made the comment if it was going to be negative since you praised the game. :)

Well yeah, but I also said that it was hard game to play.

If you find your first game to be too hard, completely change everything in your next game. Different ship, different crew, etc..

All the best to you outhere!

Yes, but achievements aren't needed to enjoy a game, and it still has in-game ones as you said. :)

Nope, not needed to enjoy. But adds an extra layer of fun. And gaming is all about fun.

Galaxy achievements helps to remind me what I did or/and where I am in the game. Especially useful after a long period of time.

Also, you can compare and see how you and others progress in a game. (In what direction, choices made, etc..)

In certain games, like CKII for example, achievements are a great way to set a rather difficult objective, that sometimes one wouldn't even think about otherwise.

There are many other reasons why a person like to have achievements. For each individual the reason may be different. But in the end it's all about having fun.

True, but for some they also heavily influence how a player plays(some play the "right" way to get every last achievement, sometimes changing how they'd play to get some of them) and "prey upon" some people's addictions(some buy every DLC to get the extra achievements, among other things).

Also some devs use them as a substitute for secrets and in game unique achievement types from the olden days of gaming, and some achievements seem "tacked on"(start the game, finish a starting level, name your character, etc) or impossible to get(beat the last boss in 60 seconds while not getting hit once, etc).

(This is not to say they cannot be fun and have their uses sometimes...I also enjoy them slightly)

Yes, and that is handy for some....but before all that we had things called pen/paper, notebooks, etc. ;)

falloutttt: Also, you can compare and see how you and others progress in a game. (In what direction, choices made, etc..)
Sometimes this is fun, but other times a bit sobering.....like when you see your favorite game only had 1/4 of the players beat the first map/level, for example.

Some also did this before achievements....nuzlock challenges come to mind, as one example. :)

Having fun is good and noble, but some things can provide extra fun yet be bad when overdone(smoking, drinking, etc).

What I am saying is i'd rather they add in more gameplay(in game secrets, levels, etc) and less things like achievements, though they can still be a bit fun in moderation.

I'm 38 years old. I know my limits in drinking, smoking(weed, cigars), fucking, and everything else. No worries there, friend! haha

Adding achievements to a game, isn't all that time-consuming. Besides, it's done pretty much as the game is released. meaning, unless the game is in early access, devs wont add much else to the game.

I honestly don't think too much on the subject, I just play my games! And as long as I'm having fun, it's all good and dandy!

Life's too short to think of each and every possible outcome for every given situation, and then worry about it all! So, i say fuck it all, and let's party instead! Yeah baby! ;D

Cheers!

Glad to hear it. :)

(Also an aside: Early 80s kids FTW)

True, but it could still cause some minor bugs & isn't as good as gameplay imo.

We still need that extra time DLC to come out to make major dents in our collective backlogs, though. ;)

I have one question: did the prices just rise a bit?
Because yesterday, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak was 8.89, today it is 9.09 €

Oh, thanks. Didn't see that topic and post... :) Well, what a surprise.
i already had Master of Orion 2 but I got it again to play it on WIN 10. It's a steal at this price and one of the best games of all time. If you don't have it get it!

I slightly prefer the first game but GOG makes it so I do not have to choose as I get both together. The fan patch makes the second game much, much better so it almost catches up to the first game, in my opinion of course.

https://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series/master_of_orion_2_unofficial_150_patch

Also, for me making MoO2 cd version work was not that hard. DOSBox, move whole cd (minus DX and TEN) to hard disk, redirect cd check, make a start link to the DOS .exe, patch game to last official version, patch to last unofficial version... alright, some work and GOG made it easier for you.

I have to try the Patch then. I only hope there won't be any issues making it work with the latest GOG version of the game...
