Darvond: I'll provide some examples: The Pixel Font: This is the font that for some reason, was handcrafted like someone got bored in a paint program. It isn't offensively bad, but legibility can be lost at points.
I'll forgive pixel fonts in old games (when something ran at 320x200 or 320x240, there's not much room for anything better). However, these days it doesn't seem to add much. It's a shame that more games don't give you font options when playing them.

Absolutely. In the days yonder past, most would put effort into making sure their font looked good in the resolution they were working with (Mario 3's font was great, neverminding "oid self" ). Modern pixel fonts are a different beast.

Loop Hero is a game I think I'd enjoy except it's eye-burningly ugly and brain-burstingly hard to read.

Especially when there's enough fonts that can either be permissively or are under open license to make you or your grandma hurt.

What I'm saying is that there's really no excuse for a bad typeface in a game. When you can just pick up a typeface as you please.

Sure. They'll get you to slow down and parse them. But as a speed reader, I consider them quite dire.

Good news. Loop Hero is aware of this, and actually offers three typefaces to pick from.

What I dislike are tiny fonts that are hard to read for their size. While the GOG forum font is a perfect example of what I'm referring to, I'm specifically talking about when tiny fonts show up in games with no settings option to make it larger. Also I'm playing on a laptop and while the display screen is on the larger side for a laptop, it's nowhere near as big as those large monitors that are only going to make tiny fonts look even more tiny.
What I dislike even more are tiny fonts that remain tiny no matter what size or scaling your attempt to invoke on them.

But I've also forgotten what font GOG even uses, since I'm using Firefox to "suggest" to all websites that they use -quickly checks- Liberation Sans, currently. At 16 pts.

Roboto is great since it's permissively licensed, and has a great look overall. The o/c/a/g problem is something I'm surprised is still a problem in say, typefaces made in the digital age.

Good idea! Time to lay siege to all websites with 16pt Trebuchent MS because I find sans serf fonts significantly easier to read, especially that one.
