It’s high time to invite the 7th Guest and the 11th Hour into GOG.com catalogue.

In the beginning of 1990’s, most games would fit on a couple floppies and CD-ROM was as widespread as a combination Mouse and VoIP Phone is today. However, one gaming company decided to do something utterly ridiculous: create a game with live actors, pre-rendered 3D environment, and orchestrated score, a game so big it would have to be sold on CD-ROM. The game they created, The 7th Guest, eventually sold more than 2 million copies and is considered by many the killer app that created a demand for CD-ROM drives.

The 7th Guest is a gothic thriller adventure set inside an eerie abandoned mansion of one Henry Stauf, an insane toymaker who decided to make the house full of twisted quests, bizarre puzzles, and deadly challenges. Bill Gates hailed it then "the new standard in interactive entertainment".
The thrilling sequel, The 11th Hour, follows the same path of terror, desolation, and grotesque logic but with even more advanced graphics, better cinematic sequences, and more in-game content.

Together, The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour, form an unsettling tale of horror and mystery that will send chills down your spine. Both games are coming soon to GOG.com for $9.99 each.

Will you accept the invitation to Henry Stauf’s cursed mansion?

Zacron: One issue with this. I believe that Myst was the Killer app that sold CD-ROMs.

Other than that, I am looking forward to these releases. :)

AFnord: Both were important CD-Rom killer aps. Both were released in 1993 and both showed people that either you had a CD-rom drive, or you were a nobody.
I suppose I have to agree, I just feel that Myst reached a bigger crowd because, while a very MYSTerious game, it did not include the ghosts and other "demonic" stuff, and therefore sold more.
good news, shame they have to cost $9,99 again though
new trend?

What have we done to deserve this!?

What a start to the year!

C'mon GOG - you've got to keep it up now!
ha! i figured these were coming to GoG when i saw that DotEmu had just released them.

Perhaps but the "free" extras alone would run you well over $10 to buy them on eBay.

Certainly more value for your $9.99 than what DotEmu provides.

So, 3rd new publisher this year? Really nice start gog, and maybe I'll finally be able to play these games.

SLP2000: I hope it doesn't mean we're done with SE titles.
We better not be; people still want their Thief 2.
(They'll probably just be adding in stuff that people feel "meh" about, for a little while.)
Hallelujah It's high time we got these classics up! I'll finally be able to run 11th Hour again!
A pair of classic collection of puzzles with the most campy acting you'll ever see in a videogame (yes, EVER). Some puzzles are impossible, some ridiculously hard (9 queens!), and the anagram puzzles in 11th Hour is just a pain (both games NEED a serious knowledge of English), but I love them both.

xxxIndyxxx: Clandestiny is a cartoony 7th guest in a scottish mansion and is awesome.

xxxIndyxxx: Clandestiny is ... awesome.
Double quoted for truth. My family is a branch off a Scottish clan and Clandestiny was an obvious choice when we saw it in a store. I was too young to be buying games myself, and so my father and I had a lot of fun going through that mansion and solving puzzles (and since the first four games I was given included Quake, Red Alert, and MechWarrior 2 (the fourth was Actura Software's Quake level pack, Eternal Darkness), they didn't see me as too young to play them).

More campy than Night Trap on the Sega CD/3DO/32X ?

Yes. Go buy it now!

I actually think this was the very first CD-ROM game I bought. For my 3x caddy-using Panasonic drive. I'm not sure if I ever actually played it.

Either way, I now have this on the iPad, where I continue to not play it. How times change.

Btw - this is in no way a reflection on the quality of the game. I just have one hell of a backlog.

Then I guess the original post was right, "considered by [many] (not all ;) ) the killer app that created a demand for CD-ROM drives."

I never had the chance to play this so I am looking forward to it.
