Wachouski brothers made a fun film. For 1999. Can't wait for Blade 4 reloaderections next.

I don't want to be an asshole, and yet I'm sure that's how I'll come across, but I really don't know what's there to not understand in the Matrix. It's a very simple, dumb action movie.

Actually while discussing with friends or colleagues (in those days) i´ve talked to exact those "factions": some who thought, there is much more subliminal presented story-wise and by using environmental-telling techniques...maybe these people (including myself) over interpreted...and those who had plain fun with the action & cgi (which i also had).
I am totally fine with both pov. I just enjoyed talking about a film that was not the usual stuff you get to see. :-)

It was just my impression while hearing others talk about the movie...directly after the movie in the cinema, me doubting whether they actually "understood" (whatever this means) the film or just pretend they did....and sure: that was a good amount of me, being disappointed to not understand the whole plot. ;-)

Alright, watched the trailer... and i liked what i saw. Although what it means it's hard to say.

Looks like they are a little more liberal on special effects with more modern CGI, ie walking through the mirror and more running on walls.

Different actors in some cases; This makes me wonder if this happens before Trinity would have been cracking the FBI database (or much later and was never took in my Morphius?), so a much earlier iteration with his memories/impressions carrying through.

But with considerations that the 'peace' that came in the third movie, all who wanted to leave could. Though war would eventually happen, and the matrix rebooted...

All in all, half expecting it to be a repeat of the first movie; ie Him leaving the matrix and becoming 'the one'.

Guess we'll have to see. I'm hesitantly hopeful.

The Wachowskis were disappointed that a reading of The Matrix was Right Wing political awakening (ie to "red pill"). In an interview, they insisted this was not their intention and they wanted to "correct" that.

So a sequel potentially starts life in order to "correct" a perfectly valid critical analysis of movies earlier in the series? Just seems too convoluted.

When you make art, you have to understand that the public may see other things in it -- sometimes things quite different to your intention.

I'll probably watch this new movie (and certainly hope they dropped the idea of "correcting" anything), but it just feels "hollow" at this point. The story felt done IMO.
