I am a big fan of GOG. It is by far my favorite digital distribution site. But Steam has always, and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future, the 800 pound gorilla in the room. What do you do if there is a game on Steam that you really want but you are unable to get it elsewhere? I have never thought much about this until the Homeworld Remastered release.

Do you just buy it on Steam and just let the lost potential revenue for GOG to be a motivator to add the titles that are being bought up at other distributors?

Do you buy on Steam and then later, if GOG gets it, buy it again to support GOG to support its DRM free philosophy and its focus on resurrecting old games?

Or do you refuse to support Steam and just hold out and buy the game you want when it shows up on GOG or another a less draconian distributor? Regardless of the time it takes?

Another one of these topics?
Sigh.. I just buy what I want where I want, which is often Steam and sometimes GOG.
Can't wait for Licurg to see this. :P

I buy it. And maybe even play it. Nobody's going to kill you for using Steam. And if you really feel like supporting GOG you can always additionally buy a GOG version once it becomes available. There's really no point to boycotting Steam. :P
I like Humble and bundle type sites. In Humble'scase, I can just give all the money to charity and none to the developers, getting the game and not supporting the business practice.

Other than that, I'm not paying anything shiny to Team America.

Also, I hear Shinyloot and Desura ain't bad.
I bought games on steam in the past, but since i've become more aware of drm/drm free, im using it more as a videogame magazine to stay updated on game releases. My gog library already doubles my steam library, and altough there are some games i'd like to play on steam, i'm fine with my gog colection, wich already amounts to a decent backlog as it is.
I used to boycott Steam, I still think they should have better customer support, but if there isn't choice and you really want to play a certain game that bad do yourself a favor and get it. Personally I won't spend more than $10,- for a game there (or anyware) in order to control damage in case of a total ripoff.
It's the gamepublishers prerogative where they want to sell their games, GOG is the competitor here losing potential sales, maybe it will motivate GOG to persuade the pulisher to get the game here. I think this is how LucasArts and Warner have been brought in, for which I'm still in awe of in how GOG pulled that one off.
I buy it on Steam if I'm desperate enough, but that's rare these days because I'm fairly patient.
If it comes to Gog,I'll buy it here and stash in my treasure chest.
Or I'll get a free version,somewhere,somehow,sometime....
I personnally feel more about the nature of the game I buy, than the game itself. I mean by that that truly acquiring a game is an imperative for me before even consider buying it. If a game is not drm-free, I will not buy it, whatever the bells and whistles there is in it. Renting is still renting, be it that you rent a ferrari or a mazda...

A mmo is the only exception to this rule, because they are by definition just a floating moment of gaming.

This. I vote with my wallet and since I don't like to rent games, it's an easy choice for me.
Since I already have so many games, I’m primarily interested in just buying games in their DRM-Free versions and GoG.com is almost the only place I buy games from.

If there is a game I really want, and it is only available on Steam, then I might get it there. Although I have been on GoG and Steam for about the same amount of time, my Steam account has only 11 games, my GoG library has 175.

Or I might get a game from some other site, or a physical copy that has another form of DRM, though I mostly only allow SecureRom, since I have a lot of old physical games that already have it, (Starforce DRM I avoid completely).

As a consumer, collector and gamer, I would also add, that any games that I own, either on Steam, other sites, or old physical copies of, I will definitely repurchase on GoG if they become available here (when I can afford it).
Saturday.
Maybe we can hire tinyE and Licurg and ask them to spam the Steam forums with GOG topics .

Steam is evil. Stay away from it .
If it's only on Steam then I buy it on Steam. Usually only when it's in a sale though.
