Despite GOG’s prerelease testing process, it’s apparent that Moto Racer 2 has some serious gameplay issues due to the remains of copy protection left over from back in the day. This specific issue is caused by copy protection remaining in the game we've distributed; it's not caused by conflicts with specific hardware or software setups. This affects everyone's game, and that's a problem. This problem is present in the masters of the game from the publisher, and is present in all downloadable retail versions of the game. The problem is simple: in motocross races, players can’t shift into a gear that’s higher than 3rd gear, and in Superbike mode they can’t shift above 4th. This makes many tracks extraordinarily difficult to win.

Some retailers might be happy with saying, “Well, we’ll work on this and when it’s fixed we’ll give you a new download.” Then, after a month, six months, a year (or longer?) players would probably get an executable that functions correctly and the retailer would be happy with having done its job.

GOG is not just “some retailer”.

Yes, we’re working on fixing MotoRacer 2 at this very moment, but we can’t tell you for sure that we’re going to have this fixed in a week, two weeks, or even a month, and telling you to wait for that long isn’t fair.

So here’s what we’re going to do: if you’re unhappy with your copy of MotoRacer 2, we’ll give you a code for any $5.99 game at GOG.com. Just log in and go to our support form, select MotoRacer 2 from the dropdown of games you have downloaded, and fill out the subject line with something like, “I’d like a credit for my copy of MotoRacer 2”. Our handy-dandy support team will get cracking on it and will send a code to you as soon a we can.

Since we’re not happy with the quality of the title, we’re have taken it off the list of active sales for now while we work on it. If you ask for a credit for your copy of the game, you’ll notice that we don’t take it off your shelf, though, and if you have already purchased it and want to download it, you’ll still be able to. Once we get the game working--whenever that is--we’ll put the game up for active sale again and post an announcement so that you guys know to redownload the new version of the game.

In the meantime, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary game on us as an apology.

GOG will never knowingly disappoint you, and we hope that this makes it right for you guys. We wouldn’t be where we are without our dedicated community of gamers, and we hope you’ll hang around for a long time to come.
<3 GOG.

Hello to all the GOG Team.

I see that yesterday you have posted about the problems of Moto Racer 2 on its dedicated subforum. While I find that great for people who bought the game, I feel like i'm abandonned for problems on another game : Gorky 17.

As you may have notices, this game has huge problems to run on most current hardware, and no fix has been made as of this moment. I'm not saying you are not trying, but that for more than a year, we have seen no word about it from your team.

You are giving credit back to people who bought Moto Racer 2 recently, but people who supported you and bought Gorky 17 at release on GOG ( around April 2009) are still expecting something. While we can understand that the game may not be fixed for a while due to difficulties (no source code on your part), most of us were not able to play it, because of screen flickering, graphical corruption, audio problems, and even crashes at random moment or startup. Getting old hardware to play a single game is not an option.

I ask you to tell us publicly on the Gorky 17 subforum, in what situation is the game right now, se we know what to expect, and if you are able to do something for us, like you did for Moto Racer 2 buyers.

Thank you for your attention GOG Team.
Well that one is a very nice action from GOG in my viewpoint. I do not have this game on my shelf but if I would have it I would be pleased on how this is solved.

There are a LOT of companies that could learn quite a bit from GOG's example here.

I always say that the best test of a company is not when everything works smoothly, but how they deal with things going wrong . . . and this is exactly the right response.

:-)

I <3 GOG!!
Class act GOG, class act.
Excellent examples of customer services, GOG Team. It almost makes me wish I had bought Motocross 2 just to be able to take part in this apology. It clearly shows your dedication to the games and your customers, and many other companies should take note of your actions. Especially those that release buggy games, and take ages to release patches, despite actually HAVING the original source code because they wrote it.
I was not one of those who bought Moto Racer 2, but this is one of the reasons I'm proud to support GOG.
I think you will find that the problem with Gorky 17 is a clash with modern pc hardware, while as gog said, the problem with motoracer 2 is inferent in the game, that may be beyond gog's control, an that is why they are offering a refund.

That may be a clash with modern hardware, but as stated on the game page, it's supposed to be compatible with Windows XP and Vista, which it is not. (Tested on Desktop and Netbook).

Good stuff GOG.
Thank you - your customer care is very appreciated!
Problem with windows is the game may work fine on one pc with vista installed, but another pc with diffrent hardware or processor ect.. may not be able to run the game correctly.
Wow what a service. I am one who bought Moto racer 2. Didn't realize there where problems with it as just been mucking around with it.and i usually suck at these games.

This is why i will always stick with gog as they work hard for their customers and if they find a problem they are not afraid to deal with it.

I will not go for the additional credit as i just play the game once in a while and can wait for the fix.
and thankyou gog, your service is second to none.
