Despite GOG’s prerelease testing process, it’s apparent that Moto Racer 2 has some serious gameplay issues due to the remains of copy protection left over from back in the day. This specific issue is caused by copy protection remaining in the game we've distributed; it's not caused by conflicts with specific hardware or software setups. This affects everyone's game, and that's a problem. This problem is present in the masters of the game from the publisher, and is present in all downloadable retail versions of the game. The problem is simple: in motocross races, players can’t shift into a gear that’s higher than 3rd gear, and in Superbike mode they can’t shift above 4th. This makes many tracks extraordinarily difficult to win.

Some retailers might be happy with saying, “Well, we’ll work on this and when it’s fixed we’ll give you a new download.” Then, after a month, six months, a year (or longer?) players would probably get an executable that functions correctly and the retailer would be happy with having done its job.

GOG is not just “some retailer”.

Yes, we’re working on fixing MotoRacer 2 at this very moment, but we can’t tell you for sure that we’re going to have this fixed in a week, two weeks, or even a month, and telling you to wait for that long isn’t fair.

So here’s what we’re going to do: if you’re unhappy with your copy of MotoRacer 2, we’ll give you a code for any $5.99 game at GOG.com. Just log in and go to our support form, select MotoRacer 2 from the dropdown of games you have downloaded, and fill out the subject line with something like, “I’d like a credit for my copy of MotoRacer 2”. Our handy-dandy support team will get cracking on it and will send a code to you as soon a we can.

Since we’re not happy with the quality of the title, we’re have taken it off the list of active sales for now while we work on it. If you ask for a credit for your copy of the game, you’ll notice that we don’t take it off your shelf, though, and if you have already purchased it and want to download it, you’ll still be able to. Once we get the game working--whenever that is--we’ll put the game up for active sale again and post an announcement so that you guys know to redownload the new version of the game.

In the meantime, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary game on us as an apology.

GOG will never knowingly disappoint you, and we hope that this makes it right for you guys. We wouldn’t be where we are without our dedicated community of gamers, and we hope you’ll hang around for a long time to come.
this is why GOG rocks... thanks everyone at GOG. I didn't buy the game because I've been waiting for a deal on all three Moto Racer games... but when I hear of stuff like this... I'll probably buy all three at regular price when Moto 2 becomes available again. :)
ooooooh be still my heart
I didn't even buy Moto Racer 2, but you guys giving this kind of service really makes me want to give you a great big virtual hug.

Now, if you could only just release Frontier: Elite 2, I'd have your virtual babies... ;-)
GOG is so much more... human than Steam. The Steam response to this problem would be, "Contact the publisher for technical support." Of course, after contacting the publisher, the response would be, "Contact Steam for technical support."
Keep up the good work GOG and you have the right ideas on how to run a business.
Also when will i see the rest of the general series IE pacific general
Thank you GOG.com (finally). You earn my business again.
I wish Steam did something like that with LEGO: Batman, the game doesn't work properly in Windows 7. This is another reason to buy games at GOG :D
Very classy, GoG. I wish you'd done something similar when Interstate '76 was released in such an awful state, but still, not a lot of companies would even go this far for their products, so good on ya. :)

Roufuss: While I am happy Moto Racer 2 owners get compensated, where was this apology when you released Interstate 76, a game that was also unplayable?

Shuangli: i think it is off topic to debate interstate 76 here, and that it is not fair to poison the customer care for motor racer 2 with this.

however a short word from my side: i dont own I76, i belive you if you say people are having problems with the game, but i see also 541 votes on that game with an average 4 1/2 stars.
i76 and probably gorky17 are unique in that the problems are well known, reproducable and affect the majority of players.
Clearly, even modern games won't run right on every possible combination of hardware, so there will always be one person who has a problem with every game on GOG.
But i76 and Gorky17 seem to be a different case.

Also, for i76 and I think gorky17, the problems were well known BEFORE the gog release. So people were waiting for a GOG release to fix those specific issues... but they didn't.

If you play i76 at more than 30fps (which all modern hardware does) then the AI breaks and turns on it's brakes every few seconds. Kind of important for a driving game.

The good reviews for i76 are from people who love the game, not necessarily from people who bought it on gog.
(and i suspect a lot more people would have bought it on GOG if it hadn't been clear from the release day that it was terribly broken.)
I love Moto Racer 2. Years ago I had this pirated copy (MR2 was really late released in Poland) that refused to work after a while so I got rid of it, but I still got lots of my own tracks. When I saw MR2 on gog I almost bought it on the 1st day, but I checked the forums and found out about these glitches.

I love this game, I want to buy it, I want to play it. But not until it works flawlessly.
This problem didn't affect me because I didn't buy Moto Racer 2, but I have to say, you guys are doing a real stand up thing here. By way of contrast, I got snookered into buying the buggy, half working Oddboxx during Steam's holiday sale and I'm still waiting for them to make things right a month later with nothing to show for it. So thanks for being committed to your customers and showing people that there is another way when it comes to digital distribution.
This is part of why GOG is so awesome!
Have anyone get code yet, because i sended the support ticket last night and still nothing.

many, MANY older games that are on steam at the moment do not work at all on Vista or 7

as far as I'm aware: Commandos series is an example of that, which is why I prefer GoG :)
It's heartening to see such a remarkable gesture from companies like GOG and this I believe sets it apart from steam with all it's drm nonsense.

Moto Racer 2 isn't particularly a classic title although a fine game in it's own right.

Some obscure titles I would love to see on gog

1)Forsaken(shooter with better gfx than descent 2)
2)Revenant (A flawed game but a worthy title; if only they could sort the bugs)
