Despite GOG’s prerelease testing process, it’s apparent that Moto Racer 2 has some serious gameplay issues due to the remains of copy protection left over from back in the day. This specific issue is caused by copy protection remaining in the game we've distributed; it's not caused by conflicts with specific hardware or software setups. This affects everyone's game, and that's a problem. This problem is present in the masters of the game from the publisher, and is present in all downloadable retail versions of the game. The problem is simple: in motocross races, players can’t shift into a gear that’s higher than 3rd gear, and in Superbike mode they can’t shift above 4th. This makes many tracks extraordinarily difficult to win.

Some retailers might be happy with saying, “Well, we’ll work on this and when it’s fixed we’ll give you a new download.” Then, after a month, six months, a year (or longer?) players would probably get an executable that functions correctly and the retailer would be happy with having done its job.

GOG is not just “some retailer”.

Yes, we’re working on fixing MotoRacer 2 at this very moment, but we can’t tell you for sure that we’re going to have this fixed in a week, two weeks, or even a month, and telling you to wait for that long isn’t fair.

So here’s what we’re going to do: if you’re unhappy with your copy of MotoRacer 2, we’ll give you a code for any $5.99 game at GOG.com. Just log in and go to our support form, select MotoRacer 2 from the dropdown of games you have downloaded, and fill out the subject line with something like, “I’d like a credit for my copy of MotoRacer 2”. Our handy-dandy support team will get cracking on it and will send a code to you as soon a we can.

Since we’re not happy with the quality of the title, we’re have taken it off the list of active sales for now while we work on it. If you ask for a credit for your copy of the game, you’ll notice that we don’t take it off your shelf, though, and if you have already purchased it and want to download it, you’ll still be able to. Once we get the game working--whenever that is--we’ll put the game up for active sale again and post an announcement so that you guys know to redownload the new version of the game.

In the meantime, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary game on us as an apology.

GOG will never knowingly disappoint you, and we hope that this makes it right for you guys. We wouldn’t be where we are without our dedicated community of gamers, and we hope you’ll hang around for a long time to come.
Don't know about Moto Racer or Gorky or Interstate as I don't own those games, but I still can't run Giants: Citizen Kabuto. The damn game won't even start :-(

Nnexxus: Very nice gesture, GOG. Now I need to select a 5.99$ game in my wishlist !
As this is such a nice gesture, in return of the favor you should not choose one from your wishlist that you would have bought anyway sooner or later. You should choose one you're interested in but might not have purchased otherwise. That's what I would do if I was affected.
This is one of the big reasons that I love GOG. When something's not right, they own up to it, roll up their sleeves and fix it. They've got my support for a long time. Thank you, GOG Team!

Yep, I was seriously thinking about that. Actually, I just browsed the entire 5.99$ catalog, wishlisting quite a few games in the process. I'll probably choose one of those games, that I would not have bought otherwise. And in the process, I've added a few other games to my list that I will eventually purchase with real money.

That is, if I decide to take advantage of this. Like Zeewolf, I bought the game but haven't really been impacted by the problem yet, since I don't have much time to play it.
Wow, just wow ...

The Broken Sword Original vs. DC thing was a nice surprise and this is the icing on the customer service cake. Keep it up! :-)
While I personally am not effected by the game's issues as I do not own it, I am still quite astounded by the customer service GOG offers. Like others have stated, other retailers\distributors basically leave a paying customer out in the cold while they wait for some kind of fix (looking at you issue heavy Steam version of Stranger's Wrath), but you folks really stepped up to a situation that technically is not your fault. Thank you GOG. This is exactly why I've made this place my nostalgia heavy home. :)

I think I'll pass : I have already bought both Serious Sams and Duke 3D during the holliday sales, so I've already got my FPS fix :-)
GOG is a classy outfit. Official.

No they wouldn't.
they would give you something else as compensation.
Sheesh, even the Gog staff is ripe with fanboyism !
i didn't buy it (racing isn't my thing), but it is nice to see this sort of post. GoG peeps really are fantastic, i just have to caution myself not to expect this from everyone, lolz.
Great customer support!
This level of customer care binds people to GoG for life.
I respect GOG for this decision and feel even that much more comfortable purchasing more content from them. I wish more companies had this much respect towards their customers.
This "solution" shows the class of GOG. I have the highest respect for them. And members like Zeewolf show the class of the community in how to respond to this solution. So it appears that GOG and its community is clearly the best of their kind.
