Randalator: With DRM, copy protection and a mandatory always online client it would have been at least 40 million sold copies, so clearly DRM-free is dead.
Be careful, people might think your serious. :)

For anyone's information:
according to
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-sells-20-million-copies/1100-6417363/
Skyrim sold [(apparently I can't read) edit:]3.5m copies in the first 2 days and 20 million copies by 2014.

legopig: Wow didn't mean to upset the fanboys. Just saying it will sell more over its lifespan than the Witcher will simply because it is a more popular game over all platforms. (even more so because Fallout 3 will probably be on PS3 an Xbox 360 too where as Witcher 3 will not so it has a wider player base right there) I ain't getting into which game is better as I don't like the Witcher games anyway so never even played it.
There is no Fallout 4 for PS3 or Xbox 360. They would have done it before the game release so they can get pre-orders.

Cool story bro. Not really related to Witcher 3 and its commercial success, but still, highly fascinating!

In other news, Angry Birds, Candy Crush Saga and The Sims, most likely outsold them both... Whatever that means!

Also, this just in: Sales of sliced bread are at an all-time high!

Wishbone: I wonder if all the NVidia codes aren't included in that "sales" figure. Kind of like how Wii Sports is the "best selling video game of all time".

It's certainly still impressive, but companies like to boast about such figures without saying exactly how they arrived at them.
Do you really think that many people bought those graphics cards to make significant difference on these sales numbers? People that woudn't just buy this game anyway?

legopig: Fallout 4 will easily beat it on sales in a few months.

ne_zavarj: Khmm . Who will preorder an overpriced , not finished Bethesda game that will be released with full of bugs ?
Yeah that's why you buy a Bethesda game 2 years after release when it's about 49% finished.
man witcher 1 is fuckin' awesome. it really is.

what a great way for the aurora engine to go out.

everybody at bioware must be so proud and satisfied with what they accomplished in videogames with that beast of an era between the game that NWN was, the module empire that is still kicking today, and the witcher 1 that was based off of its technology and engine design.
I find the numbers are average. It can't even beat Diablo 3's sales.

yyahoo: Square Enix would probably call that a disappointment... ;)

snowkatt: square enix thinks they can do cod and gta levels of sales ;p
If they made new Final Fantasies like the Final Fantasies of old, they probably can

Would be good to know retail's and GOG number of TW3 sold.

And they're including bundled sales with NVIDIA cards. For a semi-niche series 4m is decent. But bragging about it the way they did it with the expansion pass and crap as if those were all good choices, that's a bit disappointing.

is that surprising? if they hadn't tried their best to squeeze it for every last drop of blood, diablo 3 would have been a cultural phenomenon instead of what it was. it probably would've blew sales of everything away.

and what's wrong with the expansion pass? that's not so bad. $20 for 30 hours (or assuming bullshit, 20) is still not that bad. judge the expansions when they hit.

witcher 1 really is great CDPRED should be proud. I'm almost hesitant to play witcher 3 so I could try to play it at 60 fps at 4k one day with all the fixes.

We don't know how many codes NVidia got for the promotion. Just because all the actual graphics cards have not been sold yet, the codes may still count as "sold".

And yes, I do think lots of people who have gotten Witcher 3 codes with their graphics card wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Riotact: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-09-the-witcher-3-sells-4m-copies-in-two-weeks?utm_source=eurogamer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=net-daily

The Witcher 3 launched 19th May on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. We declared it Essential in our review. "A majestic, earthy open-world adventure with great integrity and personality, this is the best role-playing game in years," we said.

The Witcher 3 has been the biggest game launch in the UK this year, with sales 608 per cent stronger than those for The Witcher 2. Another way of looking at: in October 2013 it was announced that all CD Projekt Red Witcher games (Witcher 1, Witcher: Enhanced Edition, Witcher 2, Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition Xbox 360) had combined to total 6m sales. At this rate, The Witcher 3 could surpass that tally on its own.
thank golly , there isn't 2 million witcher 3 topics in this forum!
The game is worth, CDPR did a good job, even if they need to iron out a lot of bugs.
4M doesn't seem like a lot after all that hype, does it?
