apehater: that they had the distribution rights till now was known before?
The exact expiration date wasn't known. What was known for a long while, is that Piranha Bytes owned the Gothic IP and that Nordic only held the distribution rights, which would eventually expire. Seems like Nordic's distribution rights have finally expired (or are close to expiring in other stores).

DeathDiciple: New installers did work for me on win7 64bit, but on single monitor. If it's galaxy fuckup, did you try launching Rise of the Triad (2013)\Binaries\ROTTLauncher.exe directly, bypassing galaxy launch? Obviously, for single player at least, didn't even test mp.
avatar
Geralt_of_Rivia: Of course I tried starting the game using \Binaries\ROTTLauncher.exe as well as \Binaries\Win64\ROTT.exe, too.

The result was always the same.

BTW, the integrity check also didn't work here.
Same here, tried many different combinations with no positive results. There must be something wrong with the build that doesn't like Win7 64. After I uninstalling 1.5, I went ahead and reinstalled 1.4, which I never had an issue with at all. Until then, that might be the only option. Obviously that's going to do shit for people that do not have the 1.4 installers though.

You might want to report this in the "what did just break" thread.

WinterSnowfall: I got what you were saying, no worries.

The bit about the default desktop shortcut pointing to the Galaxy launch is what is also imho a confusing way to approach things. I'm not particularly happy that I'll need to recreate shortcuts for all the games I install and don't necessarily want to play in conjunction with Galaxy.

Ok, after all it's not *that* much of an issue, but still it's mildly annoying.

Having two separate desktop shortcuts is overkill, so perhaps one to a single interactive launcher that will ask you on first use (and obviously one that you can reconfigure later) if you want to use Galaxy with the game or not is the way to go?
avatar
mrkgnao: I'm not familiar with this issue. What does the Galaxy launcher do that the regular one does not?
It creates a desktop shortcut that refers to the Galaxy version.

I'm not sure I follow. The launcher only creates a shortcut?
Perhaps I should just install it and try.

See my previous post above.

The game installer creates a desktop shortcut which points to the Galaxy client (not directly to the game executable). The Galaxy client will then launch the game with Galaxy support (for multiplayer).

The desktop shortcuts created by the installers of games which are not currently Galaxy enabled will point directly to the game executable.

Here's what happens with the new installer. When you install the game, it also comes bundled with part of the Galaxy client that is responsible for the multiplayer. The start menu shortcuts generated by the installer are preconfigured to launch alongside the Galaxy component. You can bypass the launching of the Galaxy component, either by running the game's executable directly from the folder or editing the shortcut to link only to the game's executable. At any rate, since the new update was mostly about incorporating Galaxy support for Rise of the Triad, there are suspicions that it might have caused the game to stop working (at least Geralt_of_Rivia thinks so). For me, it still works the same as before (Windows 7 64-bit user here).
Thank you, WinterSnowfall and Grargar. I think I got it now.

Going to try updating my graphics drivers and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise I am at a loss to why I am having issues with this build when the previous versions worked just fine.

How does the error manifest? Does the game crash or do you have an error message? Maybe it is because of previous versions that you had installed. I never before had ROTT installed on my PC before.

No direct error, it just locks up my pc during the level 1 intro. Sometimes it will move on to gameplay after a long while and actually start the level, but that is flawless like running the previous versions when it gets to that point. I've also noticed audio glitches with the storyline intro and level intro which may or may not tie in with the issues I have been having. It might have something to do with the graphics drivers because the resolution seems to go funky when it locks up. Going to try updating drivers here and there, I know that the in-game graphics options bare no difference at all. So looks like I'm just going to have to keep trying different things until I hit upon the correct combination.

For me the game simply crashes at the start of the first level. The version before worked fine.

I have the latest graphics driver and I had ROTT installed before but I made sure to delete the old config and save files.

[Don't really know what this is. Don't remember this being mentioned by anyone. The added patch is apparently the same one removed on 9 April, except that then it was called "Patch 5937". See http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_what_did_just_update_thread/post7064]
