The most haunted night of the year draws near, and we’re getting ready for it at GOG. Beware – you’re in for some scary fun! We’re taking you on a weird adventure full of creepy creatures lurking in the dark, but don’t worry, as we’re also treating you to more than 1200 deals, new releases, and recommendations from the team!

· The Shore (-40%)
· Just Cause 1 (-75%)
· Just Cause 2 - Complete Edition (-75%)
· Tormented Souls (-10%)
· Agony

The above list of spooky stories is just a fraction of the Halloween theme on GOG. Expect more eerie and frightening games coming this week!

Of course, what would be a Halloween Sale without gaming deals, and we have tons of them, including:

· Elvira’s Horror Bundle (-10%)
· Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (-50%)
· Mundaun (-30%)
· Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace (-50%)

· Diablo + Hellfire (-15%)
· GRIME (-15%)
· Phantasmagoria (-35%)
· BloodRayne: Terminal Cut (-35%)

We know that going on such spooky and creepy adventures alone is not an easy feat. That’s why a few of the GOG team members have decided to join you on this trip by preparing their own game recommendations that you can find among the well-known Halloween collections:

· Check the collections from GOG Team members, where they share their favorite horror games
· In the Tricks collection, you’ll find all the scary titles
· The Treats collection offers you more cute and funny titles
· The Scariest Discounts collection features the Halloween Sale’s best deals.
· The Bestellers collection features GOG's all-time hits.

MarkoH01: So this only means that it is the SECOND time they misused their dropdown list. As I said, there's no need to do it this way and I consider it really user unfriendly and unnecessary complicated.
avatar
Gudadantza: Or maybe they use it when two versions of the same game exists in the Galaxy Library as two entities. Different platforms or not.

I said just an example but probably there are more.
Well, we probably don't know until GOG should decide to create a Galaxy user manual ;) But since we are talking about different games here do you see any reason why tose should not be two different entrys as well - as they are in the librar already? Unnecessary complicated and not thought out - as is the non working tag and hide function when it comes to different platforms ... as is the fact that they still did not manage to add certain sort options. I am sorry but imo the GOG Galaxy devs are extremely bad in their job. But this is probably the wrong place/thread to discuss this.

GOG.com: Beware – you’re in for some scary fun!
Indeed. :( Why do you always roll out changes of your web site just before a big sale starts instead of applying them for the public after a big sale so that there's enough time to iron out the problems before the next big sale starts...

eiii: that there's enough time to iron out the problems before the next big sale starts...
It seems that "enough time" for GOG to "iron out the problems" would never pass, though.

For example, it's literally been over 3 years since GOG introduced a bug for their 10th anniversary which wrecked all the reviews - both past and future - by making it so all the ampersand symbols become replaced by strange characters that the authors of those reviews never wrote.

And all indications seems to be that GOG has zero intention of ever bothering to fix that problem.
I miss the old days of GOG, insomnia sales and the legend of Jack Keane.

Btw, am I the only one that finds the staff listings awkward?
That base price for JC 2 in Brazil... ouch

I understand it being low priority but I wish we could get DreadOut: Keepers of The Dark here.

You mean the recommendations? Yeah, was thinking the same thing. I mean it might work, but we would have to know these people a lot better. Otherwise how would anyone know if they should trust someone's tastes in games? And anyone can say they like Diablo, Fallout or Deus Ex – that doesn't give me anything to go on while looking at those lists.
Adam, Michat, Dorota and Olo - love your halloween costumes! xD

Just Cause 1 & 2 - awesome DRM-free additions! ;)

Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft - thanks for this freebie! :)

Comnpletely agreed. It might be a different thing if those who work at GOG actually would talk to us so we would be able to know them better but we all know that this is highly unlikely since GOG went from bad to worse when it comes to communication.

But breaking community solutions which are by far better than what GOG offers just in front of a big sale does not really help to sell their games.

List of validated age verification systems: https://www.kjm-online.de/aufsicht/technischer-jugendmedienschutz/unzulaessige-angebote/altersverifikationssysteme

There are plenty of things to criticize GOG for, but I don't blame them for this. Age verification (beyond asking "are you 18+?" and accepting "yes" as the answer) is an invasion of privacy by design and a complete waste of time.

Teens in Germany could simply find a website that's hosted outside Germany for their filthy needs. The German government couldn't possibly block all sites with adult content. Or use a VPN. Or they could pirate whatever they want, or buy/sell DVDs in the schoolyard or cafeteria. Maybe they sell microSD cards these days, I dunno.

I played violent video games like Wolfenstein 3D (MEIN LEBEN!), watched violent movies like Die Hard (Yippee-ki-yay, MF) and watched porn well before I was 18. And I'd like to think I'm not an abusive misogynist nazi.

MarkoH01: Don't get me wrong, I hate those so called "youth protection laws" we have in Germany with a passion and I completely agree that no video game or movie will ever be harmful to any normal kid. But that does not mean that GOG or any other store WHO AIMS TO SELL TO GERMANS should not add required age verification gates. It is still up to every person if they would like to use them or if they would rather decide to "break the rules" ... right now however Germans only have two options: don't buy the game at all or break the rules - and there still are several people out there who have a problems to do the latter and don't know anyone who would gift them those games ... those simpls won't be able to buy the game and the reason for this is not German laws but GOG since those games simply never were banned in Germany at all.
If stores would implement the age verification and consumers would accept it, the law will never change. If stores refuse to implement it and consumers pirate stuff and/or the age verification becomes politically unpopular the law might get overturned some day.

Short term this is worse, long term it may turn out to be better. Furthermore, I wonder if nobody has started a business yet somewhere outside of the EU with a German language website to sell game keys. At least for GOG that would work, don't know about Steam.

Don't you think that's a bit idealistic? I sincerly believe obeying the law or disobeying it has nothing to do with changing the political climate of your government. At least not on this scale. You can abide by the law and still be vocal about necessary changes, hoping this or the next government will implement them.

Besides, it's not like proper age verification is something terribly unreasonable in a democratic state. If people were rebelling against it, someone might even get the wrong idea, like "Oh, then you want your kids to be able to buy porn or alcohol online?".

Don't you think that's a bit naive? If you collect a million signatures for something you'll often get little more than a shrug. Laws that nobody breaks, don't cause trouble, missed revenue or create electoral risk are unlikely to be scrapped.

Besides, it's not like proper age verification is something terribly unreasonable in a democratic state. If people were rebelling against it, someone might even get the wrong idea, like "Oh, then you want your kids to be able to buy porn or alcohol online?".
It is unreasonable. What kids watch or play is parental responsibility. The age check for alcohol purchases can be done by the shipping company upon delivery which is more effective than an online check.

With all the data leaks and whatnot, anyone should aim for as few organizations as possible to have knowledge of which porn sites any given individual is subscribed to. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point you could be denied car insurance because you played too much Carmageddon or blew up too many personal vehicles in GTA Online if databases with that information leaked. You wouldn't be told that was the reason, but such information could be used to decide which client to accept or reject. This already happens with various kinds of information. Don't you dare live in the wrong ZIP code..

So long story short I think it's good that GOG doesn't actively share what you play with other organizations. If you allow the government to force you to share this information you'll just find yourself on a slippery slope.
