This priest has the most amazing level of irony ever.
Wow...
I love this stuff. People are always telling me how screwed up I am because I watch nasty movies, play violent games, tell dirty jokes, and listen to loud music. Shit, in 37 years the worst thing I've ever done was 45 in a 30. Yeah, I'm the immoral one!

That's ... almost impressive
Once again, they knew for two years and let this guy run amok until it blows up in their faces and further hurts the many good and decent priests in the Catholic church as well as all Catholics in general and especially those of this guy's parish in particular. How the Catholic church can continue to fail to learn its lessons after so much disaster is astonishing. They need to swiftly remove priests who fail before they can cause any further harm. A lot of past human tragedy would have been averted had they always consistently done this.

The best part of the irony is all the excuses everyone is making for him. They're basically saying "it's not his fault, Satan made him do it".

No I didn't! :P
Come on, the guy liked broadway musicals and show tunes. How could anyone not see this coming?
The article doesn't say what the Diocese's response was to the report that he was engaging in sex acts. It wouldn't be the first time a priest has been falsely accused of that, so it may be the case that they looked into it and found it to be without merit. It just doesn't say. While being convicted of a later crime does make it more likely that previous accusations of misconduct are true, it is a mistake to assume that they are.

I don't know about the legal issues receiving a stipend or why he was still receiving one after he left the priesthood, but receiving one does not necessarily imply approval of his behavior. That article does not state that the Diocese was made aware of the fact that he had opened up a sex shop and had been selling meth after he had left the priesthood.

While it's probably true that the Diocese could have been more careful, the article seems to be set up to imply a lot more associated guilt than what was actually stated.

Yeah, everyone knows that people who enjoy that sort of thing are always involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
"He often attended musicals with his mentor, former N.Y. Cardinal Edward Egan"

Season 2 looks promising.

I read the article and a number of the comments, but I didn't see anything that got close to basically saying that. Perhaps you could quote them?

EDIT:
There is a big difference between saying that this is a work of evil and saying he's not responsible for his actions.

This may be the single best thing I've heard all week.

EDIT: My entertainment level is over 9000.

This guy is serious hollywood material.

I often wondered where/how american scenarists/writers get their inspiration to create such polished wicked movie/book characters ..... I guess in fact they just read the news and visit public places.
