Fever_Discordia: Don't forget the original Lost Vikings too!

(Why'd you quote my entire post? ;)

I didn't forget, I just didn't mention it here. My speculation in the post above aside, did somebody suggest Blizzard was involved and bought back the rights, or was that something else?

EDIT: Oh, here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_search_for_game_rights_a_diaryesque_thread/post37

nijuu: awesome thread :).appreciate the effort.Into the eagles nest, Gauntlet 1 and 2 (Hammer watch beta is the closest thing to this type of game now), and Magic Candle. All classics and awesome back in the day.Definitely would buy if they ever came to gog. thanks for update on freeware games too:)
Thanks man. :) Hopefully Turnipslayerr and the other GOG game bringers are finding this thread useful. (Naturally, I can only do so much attempt at contacting. :P)

tfishell: snip
Mortal Kombat
The rights to this series are now with Warner Brothers, along with virtually all of Midway's games. The rest are currently being disposed of by the Midway Liquidating Trust:
http://dm.epiq11.com/MWY/Project

Nectaris (aka Military Madness)
The rights are now with Konami.

Wolf
Sam Palahnuk, who worked on the game, believes that the rights are no longer held by any company.
https://twitter.com/sampalahnuk
I would first check with others who worked on the games, like Ivan Manley of Manley & Associates. This person seems to have gotten into contact with Mr. Manley recently:
http://www.thebrothersduomazov.com/2013/02/heroes-of-midnight-sun-manley-associates.html

The Lost Vikings 1 + 2
We would need to check with both Blizzard and Interplay to see who holds the rights to which properties.

Nippon Safes
As for this and other Dynabyte titles, Paolo Costabel of Dynabyte could know what happened. He's well connected so it's easy to find his LinkedIn, Google+, etc info. I found this e-mail address, but it's about 9 years old:
paoloc(at)pacbell(dot)net

Nobunaga's Ambition 1 + 2
Tecmo Koei's got tons of great strategy games in addition to this, and it would be awesome to see their stuff on GOG. Getting in contact with them (and waiting for the heads in Japan to decide on anything) is the tricky part.

Regarding Dinamic Multimedia's library, it's worth asking the Ruiz brothers at FX Interactive if they know what happened.
http://www.fxinteractive.com/int/us/contact.htm

Powerslave/Exhumed
Mentioned this elsewhere, but the developers, Lobotomy Software, think that Activision last held the rights to the game:
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=501683913235556&id=386374664766482

I asked Infinite Game Publishing (of the online Mechwarrior games) if they had the rights to any of the older Mechwarrior games, but they say that they don't. Even if they did, some of those games used mech designs that they no longer have the rights to, so that would be a huge problem.

The Chaos Engine remake developers intend to release the game on GOG, so that hopefully covers the original game, but Bitmap Brothers is only sort-of involved. Don't know why they've ported Z to smartphones but haven't re-released it on PC. Tried e-mailing them twice but never got an answer. Others can try here:
http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/contacts/index.htm

Heart of Darkness
Eric Chahi ought to know what happened to the rights to the game. I know he co-produced the game with 4 others: Frédéric Savoir, Fabrice Visserot, Daniel Morais, and Christian Robert (deceased). He has a LinkedIn site, but I have no idea how to search for the company he works for now - °0°
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/eric-chahi/10/a52/71b
He used to have a personal site, anotherworld.fr, but his email there is now dead.

Blade Runner
We need to ask the current rightsholders to the Blade Runner name, the Blade Runner Partnership. Others have had success getting in touch with them about other topics related to Blade Runner, but they never replied to me about the game:
http://www.alconent.com/contact/contact-form

Chasm: The Rift
I can't find Igor Karev's contact info (he handled the business side of the development company). Last I know, they worked on Cryostasis and shortly afterwards disappeared. Other developers who worked on the game now work at Tatem Games, but no one there's answered any of my e-mails:
http://tatemgames.com/

Veil of Darkness, The Summoning, War Wind, Dusk of the Gods, etc.
I want to ask the producers of Event Horizon Software/DreamForge Intertainment if they know what happened to the rights to these older titles. I know we have Anvil of Dawn and Sanitarium here, but each are from separate publishers. If these guys don't have those rights, hopefully Ubisoft or XS Games have them and can bring them to GOG. Anyway, the three producers (James H. Namestka, Christopher L. Straka, and Thomas J. Holmes) are now part of a company called Donohue Partners in Greensburg, PA.
http://www.bizapedia.com/pa/DONOHUE-PARTNERS.html
Unfortunately, I can't find their contact information (for free anyhow), only snail mail addresses.
They also did Dungeon Hack, but that being a Forgotten Realms licensed work, they wouldn't have the rights to publish it.

Edited for some clarity.

Hey, do you have any special software you use to write everything down, like being able to "group" certain parts of info easily to separate game companies? I'm starting to build a Wordpad document with the companies that still need to be hunted down (starting back in the *unofficial* thread with Thalion software and FTL games), but that doesn't leave me with the "freedom" I want to be able to move text around easily.

Maybe I should just use Illustrator for visual representations, lol.

EDIT: Or maybe Google Docs has something useful.

No, all I use are the Mac equivalent of Word and Notepad, this thread, my saved e-mails, and my memory. :)
Gotta get to sleep, I have a busy day tomorrow. G'night!

HA, yeah, trying to do flowcharts is taking too much time. Maybe I'll stick with Wordpad, and just rearranged the information better.

Sleep tight.

tfishell: These people may be able to help a lot, though: https://www.facebook.com/lodge.level.4 It seems like many that worked on Harvester are actually fans on that page!
I really like what I can see on this fanpage :)

Huff: Legend aka The Four Crystals of Trazere seems to be available everywhere as 'abandonware'. Would be nice to have on GoG. I believe it was last 'owned' by Mindscape
I'd also love to see this one.
avatar
tfishell: I can continue searching eventually, but there are other titles I'd like to focus on for now.
Thanks again for your efforts.

SCPM: Raven Software has the rights to their original titles (i.e. not based on licensed work), so games like Shadowcaster and Necrodome ought to be good to go.
I guess they also still have the Heretic/Hexen series?

Anyone know what's the status of Legend Entertainment?

tfishell: Jill of the Jungle + Jill Underground + Jill Saves the Prince, from Epic
Those were also released as "Jill of the Jungle: The Complete Trilogy" which I desperately wanted to have back then. And I still want it now.
The rights seem to be with Epic games still, and the game was designed and programmed by Tim Sweeney.
Epic Games is also already here on GOG.
Epic Games have twitter, facebook, email - so what would be a good way to ask them about this?
Nectaris - AFAIR there were several versions of the game, for different platforms. Some were enhanced, some were called Military Madness. I guess it might be a bit difficult to sort it out which version is the best one. Anyway, all I can say is that I didn't enjoy the game. It's a very generic TBS. I just couldn't get into it. No major faults nor bugs but nothing really special.

NetStorm: Islands at War - it's a game that's it hard to get into but then can be pretty entertaining. It's a very unique RTS. There are several floating islands in the game so to conquer new lands you have to build bridges between them. However, they tend to collapse which is very frustrating at the beginning but later you will learn how to use it to your advantage. The interesting thing is that only transport units are mobile. Both defensive and offensive units are deployed and cannot move ever again. So you have to decide what is better:
- Frontal assault: just build a line shaped bridge between two isle and hope to overcome your opponent defenses (they are usually very strong there)
- Back door attack: you will have to build an epic bridge which may falls apart before you finish it but you can catch your enemy unprepared.
The game is not definitely not flawless but pretty decent nevertheless.

Nightmare Creatures - pretty decent TPP action game, especially considering its age. I really like that the characters were significantly different: Ignatius was strong, resistant but slow while Nadia was much weaker but agile and fast. Ignatius was usually better for regular monsters while (quite surprisingly) Nadia was very good in boss battles because in many cases you had to avoid their attacks and strike when they are off-guard (and obviously she was better in dodging) The camera and controls are a bit clunky nowadays but it's a good, atmospheric game.

North & South - I'm not surprised by the number of votes (huge nostalgia) but I'm afraid it wouldn't sell well nowadays. It's a funny little game but rather short (half an hour is usually enough ti finish it). A few minigames and nice but repetitive battles. You army consists of three types of troops: artillery which can do a massive damage but has limited ammo, cavalry - fast but equipped with sabers only and infantry with rifles (but they can only shoot forward so it's easy to flank them with your cavalry). I've heard that they released remastered version so if we can get it bundled with the original perhaps it wouldn't sell bad.
I still have the manual for Four Crystals Of Trazere (or Legend as I knew it) in a shelf somewhere. The disks on the other hand... who knows where they are. Wouldn't mind that one on GOG at all!

Great thread!

LOL sorry, I got in late and was just checking the forums really quickly before bed, I've gone back and neatened it up a bit now to keep the place a bit more tidy

I'll have to check how Blizzard comes into the Lost Vikings series and the rest of this interesting thread later...

Ooh that talk of Islands reminds me f Archipelagos, apparently there was a remake called Archipelagos 2000

Don't think I ever played it but always thought it looked interesting...

IAmSinistar: Another possible publisher to plunder is Coktel Vision. We already have the Gobliiins games from them here. They produced a number of adventure games, notably several with mature content, as well as some other game types. The following titles are, in my estimation, good potential candidates.

Fascination
The Bizarre Adventures of Woodruff and the Schnibble
Bargon Attack
Legend of Djel
The Prophecy
And those strange Inca games, I remember Inca 2 being quite good last time I dug it out of the cupboard...
Yeah, Cokel because part of Sierra at some point
