Ah HOMM2 it is still great and was such a huge leap above the original. HOMM3 complete is equally as excellent and has a great HD mod to give you modern resolutions. Although I never had any success in making it work with my old boxed copy it works like a charm on the gog version.

It is always nice to get something for free.... I do wish that those of us who already have the classic versions of BG and IWD got an extra discount for essentially already owning most of what is there.

The EE are fairly well priced if you don't already own the originals but if you do... it is a pretty tough sell as the extra content doesn't really seem that good and the only major perk seems to be 'you can zoom'.

Yeah, I've played...umm....I think just 1, 2 and 3, and 2 is my favorite, far and away. My best friend and I spent SO many hours playing all night on Saturdays when we were in high school. I still have my disc somewhere but I'd rather avoid the hassle and get it ready to play from GOG. Just waiting for that sale!

Maighstir: Aren't Russian inventions great?
We cant give an honest answer to that, maybe we aren't even allowed to answer questions like that eventhough we should be allowed to do so in our democracy and the Dutch are nr 2 in freedom of press, but its better not to answer when 'the reds' are involved cause all MSM considers them a 'threat'.
And afterall only the reds are evil according the MSM the rest are all angels.

Anyway it is so sad that in our current democracy we are not allowed to freely reply and speak so maybe democracy should be rewritten with a k in it? Demockracy.

Noblica89: Anyone have reccomendations for someone who has never played a Spiderweb developed game where to start?Or if you had to pick 2 , which one would you get?

RyaReisender: Avernum: Escape From The Pit is the best one to start.
Geneforge

if you like having choices such choosing factions to join or being potentially unable to do everything if you level up your character a certain way.

Jonni: Already played and finished Eschalon: Book I, but this makes me think I should try to get around to playing the sequels.

ciemnogrodzianin: Have you any idea of how long does it take to complete the game?
It has been quite a while, but I recall it taking a couple of weeks, although I didn't commit a huge number of hours / day to it.

Are you starting a new character every time you die and is there a reason for this? This isn't a roguelike since the game has a saving option - did you notice it? Attack rolls, chests and pretty much everything else is randomized each time, so you moght die from time to time even with an advanced character.

Yep, I know I can save and load. For cRPGs I often let my characters die at the very beginning, just to explore a world and better understand its mechanics :) It's my way of preparing the final hero/party in cRPGs.

I believe I can handle. The game was nice (I loved atmosphere of outdoors, sounds of nature and camping in the woods) and I'm sure I'll be back there in a few months.

I've just wanted to know, how much effort it costed you and if there are significant difficulties at the further stages of the game.

ciemnogrodzianin: Have you any idea of how long does it take to complete the game?

I started Eschalon Book One a few months ago and I've found it quite demanding.
1. My first hero was dead in few minutes.
2. The next one too.
3. The fird one was better, but there was no map available, so I had to start again, with cartography skill higher than 0 (yes, there is no automating here, if you have no skill for that).
4. The fourth one walked with basic map, but he was unable to wear armor and died soon, killed by bats.
5. So the fifth one has both cartography and wearing armor skills. The problem was that the armor I've found was heavy armor and I had only light armor skill (yes, it's not a matter of increasing "armor" skill; there are two separate skills for using light and heavy armors).

That makes me think that reading manual a few times would be good idea before I get into the game again (:
If it's any help, it took me around 33 hours to complete Eschalon: Book I (I tend to be a fairly slow and methodical RPG player, so you might need much less time).

If you need any assistance with character builds, strategies, or just want to know more about the game, you will find loads of useful information on the developer's forum:

Thanks, I'll check this for sure!
Regarding 33h - I suppose it may be similar for me. In most of cases my playtimes are also significantly higher then reported by other cRPG players.
YAY!!!! All the Might and Magic games are on sale now!! What luck! If you've never played them, 4, 5 and 6 are the best cRPGs I've ever played. I love them so much. Gonna grab Heroes 2 as well
