Anyone here watched this show? It's a very well directed (and acted) TV show about a world where the Germans and Japanese won WWII. It's an excellent thriller and drama where you never completely know who's side anyone is on.

Critiques

- The Nazis actually call themselves Nazis, as a bit of a history buff this bothers me because the term Nazi basically originated as an epithet, the Nazis referred to themselves as National Socialists.

- It's kinda hard to sympathize with the Resistance (at least in the Reich) because the show never actually shows the evil acts perpetrated by the Germans/Japanese, you see some people getting executed but the show never shows concentration camps or slavery (even thought they are mentioned only briefly a few times). The closest they get is showing a mass grave once. The Nazi Reich seems like a perfectly clean, orderly society with super advanced technology, not a dystopia at all.

- Why the hell is the "neutral zone" so goddamn huge (on maps)? There's like thousands of miles of land unoccupied by either side. Makes no sense considering all the resources that would be in it.

It's great. I love that the Nazis, the Japanese and the Resistance are presented as real people, with flaws and virtues, and that not everything is black or white. I wished they pushed a bit more on the sci-fi side, since it's canon now.

I think the dystopian parts of the Nazi Reich and the Japanese Empire are there, even if they are more subtle. Most characters live in fear of doing anything wrong, because it would mean death, and that feeling is transmitted to the audience.

I have thought about the size of the Neutral Zone myself. It must be part of the alliance / non-aggresion pact between the Reich and the Empire. But it's strange that they don't care about all the people that flee there, rather than the resources.

I watched the 2 seasons during my free Amazon Prime period.
Great show ! It's a bit the Amazon GoT, imo.

Nazis aren't real people. You need to be human to be a person and they don't qualify.

It's great, seen the first two seasons. Maybe I'll have time to watch the third also.

First two were trolling, the last were not.

I enjoy the show. It isn't amazing but I definitely like it. I probably wouldn't like it as much as I do if I wasn't insanely fascinated with WW2 stuff. There are so many movies, shows and video games that have gone the mostly historically accurate route, so it's really refreshing to see them take the what-if alternate future direction with the show instead.

I never did read the book so I'm not sure how it is compared to the show.

Great show although a few details annoyed me, such as german soldiers toting weapons that wouldn't be invented by that time.

I think it's one of the best shows in recent years. I hope it doesn't decline into some endless soap opera though.

As for the points:
- The rest of the world called them Nazis so I guess they adopted it for easier understanding.

- The war is over, there is no need for some mass displays of atrocities when you can see the results (literally no different ethnicities in the reich) or you hear them mentioned briefly like it's no big news (the whole continent of Africa exterminated with the use of nuclear bombs)

- The neutral zone is not some kind of a free land the ruling parties allow out of some good will, it's a demilitarized zone serving as a provocation deterent so that japanese and nazi soldiers don't stir unnecessary shit. It's that wide because both sides have a massive military presence so a couple of kilometers just wouldn't cut it. Claiming more land on either side would only lead to the other side wanting more as well and eventually leading into open conflict. That's the main reason, just like the DMZ between North and South Korea, to avoid unnecessary conflicts. And then there's the PR side of the thing in which they can claim the "subhumans" can live happily in the DMZ out of the benevolent will of the nazi reich and the japanese empire.
Yeah but it's an alternative history 1960s. They also have superjets flying people around the world, moon landing before 1960, plans to dry up the mediterranean sea to get more land for agriculture etc.

i enjoyed it, started watching it without knowing a thing and when they revealed the whole switcheroo of the nazis having won I was startled and intrigued. i did like how they 'normalized' the whole occupation, the scene where the chattly friendly bureaurcrat is talking nonchalantly about the weekly gassing of the 'inferiors' was chilling

I enjoy alternate history fiction, so I've been thoroughly enjoying the show so far, even if I'm wondering where it will be going with all the alternate timeline shifts. I'm looking forward to season 3.
