We'd like to give you a heads-up that on November 7th, 2pm UTC, The Long Dark will be removed from our catalog.

If you were not sure whether you wish to have this exploration-survival game or not, now is a good time to decide :)

Those who already own the games, or will purchase them before this Wednesday, will of course still be able to access them through their library. All owners will also have access to updates even after the game’s removal.

I remember a few complaints about the (late or missing) updates of the game on GOG, maybe that's part of the reason. The game on GOG was also missing a few translations compared to Steam. I don't know who's at fault here, but I'm sure there's a valid reason.

More reasons to suspect there won't be any future updates for us after the game removal.

I guess I will never have this one then as I have no trust that a company leaving GOG as a market intends to lift more than a single finger a single time, tops, for anything left behind. Still, a pity to see a promising looking game leaving.

That's too bad. I've got it on Steam, and would consider getting the gog version but not at full price. Though my guess is that's probably more of a decision on the publisher's part rather than gog.

A finale sale for it would have made gog some good money. The reason not to have a going away sale doesn't make much sense, unless it scorched earth policy by a disgruntled and/or myopic publisher.

What?

If the devs plan on releasing updates for the GOG version, do they have ANY reason at all to remove it? Did someone pay them to remove it from GOG?

The game has just been released on consoles and it has a new publisher. Which maybe is "uncomfortable" with a DRM-free version available.

I could ask the same. Why they just want to reject the source of potential income from future buyers and still work on patches? It's very odd and quite irrational.

As much as it could theoretically bet about steam, a certain tweet, etc, it more or less just seems like they'd rather not get so many posts on their forums about the GOG version not getting updated as fast as steam. Obviously this is just speculation, but i have to be fair.
