jepsen1977: If you have a stomach ache because you've eaten too many chocolate bars, are you still allowed to bitch and complain about it or is it just self-inflicted and you should just shut up about it?
Bitch! It's the chocolate's fault for being too delicious. :)

For my bitching: I was doing dishes last night and shifted my weight to my left foot. All of a sudden I had lancing pain in my ankle and foot. I'm pretty sure I sprained a small ligament. Now all I can do is hobble around and try to stay off it. Every once in awhile I forget and step wrong. I have too much stuff to do, I don't have time for this! Maybe I should just amputate ;)
Four and a half months without work. I'm trying to stay productive, but this is starting to take its toll psychologically. At least I'm noticing it.

Come weekend I'll go visit a friend. It will be nice to get out of the flat for a bit.

Soccorro: biology and geography is a combination with absolutely no future
Years ago, my boss' husband was a paleobotanist. He got special permits to camp in places like the Grand Canyon to do his work. It struck me as a nifty occupation.

I don't know if it is a growing field or not, though.

Soccorro: NO! don't write things like that! GOG.com is growing. it's all fine! GOG.com is immortal. NANANANANA I CAN'T HEAR YOU! NANANANAN!!!

Bitchy time: I have been accepted to university. Geography and computer sciences (teaching degree). the problem is: computer scineces was plan z, the very last thing i'd like to study. even though it might be interesting, i'd prefer biology. but then again, biology and geography is a combination with absolutely no future. and biology is also very crowded, so my chances of switching are small.
University! Yay!!!
The trade show in Atlanta (and everything before and after) went better than I hoped. Some big possibilities / opportunities presented themselves, and I've got some work ahead of me to bring at least some of them to fruition.

But... I screwed up my back somewhat badly. Standing in front of machines for four days straight with very little sit-down time did me in. Was feeling it the last day of the show, worse the next morning (took almost ten minutes - no fooling - to put my socks on) but I was still able to help with tear-down, and Monday I was all-but-useless.

After some aggressive stretch exercises things improved enough for the drive home Tuesday and Wednesday (900+ miles) but it's tough to lift much more than 30 pounds. That's gonna make pissing difficult <bah-dump-TSSH!>

This isn't the first time, nor likely to be the last. I think the writing is on the wall for riding motorcycles since this crap always seems to happen in spring and summer. We're probably going to sell them soon, which is a bit of a heart-breaker. No fun having to give up something that makes you happy.

Ouch, sympathies for your injuries, my left ankle never healed right after I sprained it in a frigid Milwaukee winter 6 years ago. I was drunk and thought the hospital was a silly idea. The stupidity of youth?Unfortunately I was not that young so no.

My library system cut the hours of all non-librarians in my region while they do some budget reorganizing. What this really means is they're likely getting ready to let a large number of people go and hoping some will quit first due to losing said hours. I am seeking new employment but considering the fact that my resume is very spotty since I graduated from college 7 years ago I'm concerned, like most people are in today's job market in the US, which doesn't make me special at all, before anyone feels the need to point this out.

I'm sorry to hear about the library cutting your hours, I hope they will not be letting you go after the budget reorganizing. They would be stupid to lose such a wonderful person.

Meh. :( Don't they realise that by cutting library workers, they're actually shooting themselves in the foot? Libraries exist to educate. How else are we supposed to better ourselves if we don't have access to the very thing that will collectively make a country better? A population that is well educated that (hopefully) knows how to think and judge for themselves, rather than swallowing all the pap that's fed to them.
Discernment begets honesty and elected politicians that are for the people. Everyone is better off except for corporations and their fat cats.
This.

Governments seem to be putting all their eggs in the internet basked. When the small library I used to work at closed, the reason given was that with the increase of internet users and more people using ebooks, that the use of libraries is becoming obsolete and with the recession, it was just not viable to keep open. This was despite the fact that the library had a very good footfall (it was a medium(ish) library that catered for all of the nearby villages and was always well used). Even school libraries are closing, with the schools relying on internet for the student to use as a research tool.

It seems somewhat narrow minded, as not everyone likes ebooks or using the internet for research and education. We used to get a lot of older people who came to borrow books and to socialise (which is viral for their health - isolation can destroy a person, especially an elderly person) and because they had no idea, or inclination, how to use a computer, they relied on the library as their source of education and readiing.

One of the authors I read made a very good point. With ebooks, you need an initial outlay in order to get an ebook reader. You also need an internet connection to download the books.
Some people can't afford the electricity to charge the reader, let alone to buy it!
What this is doing in effect is limiting reading to the middle class and above. Anybody below the breadline need not apply. This is discrimination. Not the sign of a balanced society. :(
We also see an awful lot of traffic from the unemployed who use our computers to search and apply for jobs. They make and print out their CVs. In fact, the Job Centre tells them to come to us. They tell them to use the library resources to better themselves.
There's no risk of the library closing here, but our service has deteriorated massively. We couldn't handle the volume of traffic that came through sometimes, and now they've also cut more jobs.
4 people to handle a 3 storey library? The computer says "yes", reality says "no".

I had a meeting for a job in a small town hall one week ago. I was convinced it was the good one, but I received a letter today saying someone else get the job. I called the mayor to know why and he said he chose someone who just moved in around and who already did the same job in his previous city before.
So, how can I start to work and earn XP if the job is given to someone else because he knows the missions ? To favour a beginner should be the rule to decrease unemployment in the youth, but it's not for tomorrow !

No XP, no job = No job, no XP !

That's why you yelled at me for not getting books transferred to my rural library LOL. I am sorry they cut your hours, and that is a crap way to weed out people instead of doing their jobs and letting people go. Government. I hope that you are not one of those that goes, but if you are I am a firm believer in the crap saying "things happen for a reason" (yes, I'm one of those jerks). You are smart and capable. You will land on your feet. All else fails, you can use my "oh no I have no options" business plan. Move to Florida, sell sea shells by the shore. :)
So last year was my first year of college, it went awesome! met an awesome group of friends, made a band, we had a gig lined up and everything. It was going great.

Fast forward to this summer. Two of my friends are getting married (to each other), have a kid on the way, dropping out of school to pay for the extravagant wedding and child stuff. Another friend got kicked out of his house for no reason and thus has to drop out of school to pay for living and eating. Another friend decided that he's being called to go up north to minister to native tribes up in the territories so he's not back.

And to top it all off, at the end of this school year the campus is closing for an online only approach to learning. I preferred this school over all the others because I made amazing friends in both students and teachers, I felt like I was actually part of a good community for the first time in my life and now... now it's just dissolving before me.
My mood is as grey as the new forum layout. Been working for three days after my vacation, three in a row, with wednesday working instead of having a rest day, and it was too much.Four meetings were planned for this week and work started of with a meeting. Then cleaning out the inbox on tuesdagy and another meeting. Reading instead of resting stuff for a meeting on thursday, when it was also time to get my medication (syringed) and when I arrived I was so stressed up I got the advice to cancel both coming meetings.

I freaking vulnerable, freaking out and get all edgy, depressed, scary, restless after just three days of work. The limit of a 7 hour work-week I nominally keep for myself, should be a hard limit it seems: 3 hours on monday, 2 on tuiesday, 2 on thursday. Any hours beyond that and I snap like a reed.

edit: sorry for the fucked-up grammar. Lack the energy for formulating properly.

Tried not looking at the news these last few months and i felt a bit better, thinking the world isnot so wrong maybe after all, but when I look at thenews, againg, there'sstill no peace. Half of Syria has fled for instance. 50 % of all Syrians is a refugee. And even though thepeople in Gaza suffer badly, those fucking Israeli's blockade help.

I SO MUCH HATE THIS WORLD. wE HATEZ IT, WE HATEZ IT, GET MY OUT OF HERE, BEAM ME UP SCOTTY.

Probably a long shot, but have you looked into doing this type of work in the corporate world?

"Corporate Librarian? WTF is this dipshit on about?"

Well, they have mounds of info. Info that needs to kept track of. Much of it in paper format. I mean, just the small place I used to work at could have used someone with those skills to get the technical documentation in order, digitized it, made it easier to access, etc. And just because a business might have gone mostly paperless doesn't mean that the same concepts don't apply.

Might be worth a look.
