Part 3 is now up

It's been a while since I last did one of these giveaways, and with the release of Linux Mint 19.1 and the update to my Linux Mint beginner's guide, I think it's time for another :) All of the games in this giveaway are playable on Linux, either natively or via my Wine/Proton wrappers.

It's a great time to use Linux; it's easier to use and better supported than ever, with more & more games now coming to Linux. And as the Linux userbase grows so does the incentive for hardware manufacturers and developers to support it, leading to even better support as time goes on.

Wine has also been seeing huge improvements, allowing many more Windows-only games and other software to run on Linux. DXVK has provided an amazing boost to performance and compatibility with Direct3D 11 games. Front-ends for Wine such as PlayOnLinux and CrossOver make it a lot easier to use as well. And then there are projects such as vv221's ./play.it project, my own Wine wrappers, Lutris and GameHub to make things even easier still :)

Valve have been doing a lot to support Linux, resulting in many improvements to Vulkan and the Linux graphics drivers in general as well as Wine. On Steam, SteamPlay now provides a seamless experience for running many Windows games on Linux using Proton (Valve's own fork of Wine), with new games being added to the whitelist every so often (and many non-whitelisted games also run very well). You can check compatibility reports for SteamPlay at ProtonDB.

And for those still holding out on Windows 7, time is running out on extended support so if you don't want to be forced onto Windows 10 it would be better to start looking into Linux sooner rather than later, so that you can ease into it at your own pace rather than end up being rushed into it.

So, if anyone's curious about Linux I invite you to take a look at the guide and consider trying it: The "Try Linux" Repost/Rewrite (a "beginner's guide")

This has been split into multiple smaller giveaways to make it more manageable (also, you can still enter even if you won something in a previous part/winning something here will not bar you from entering subsequent parts). The prize list for this part is:

> Anno 1701 A.D.
> Brigador: Up-Armored Edition
> Crysis Warhead
> Deus Ex: GOTY Edition
> Driftmoon
> Dungeons 2 + DLC
> Fallout 2
> FEAR Platinum

> Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection
> The Long Dark
> MDK
> Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition Digital Deluxe Edition
> Owlboy Collector's Edition
> Quern - Undying Thoughts
> Ruiner
> Satellite Reign

> STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
> SWAT 4: Gold Edition
> Transistor
> Transport Fever
> Victor Vran
> Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War Deluxe Edition
> World of Goo

To enter, simply post here listing what you're entering for in order of preference. Using/trying Linux is encouraged but not a requirement for entering the giveaway.

This part of the giveaway will run until Thursday 3rd January at 20:00 UTC. Due to problems with downrepping in previous giveaways, the winners will not be publicly revealed unless they decide to do so themselves. Also make sure that your chat settings are correct; if they are not set to allow conversations with all other users then I will be unable to send the key if you win anything, so your entry will not be counted.

Rules:
- No rep requirement but I reserve the right to disqualify entries at my discretion.
- If your chat settings will not allow me to contact you then your entry will be disqualified.
- Winners will be selected randomly after the giveaway ends.
- Each winner will receive one prize - whichever of the remaining prizes is their most preferred.
- Please only enter for games that you don't already have.
- Please only enter for games that your system can run.
- Please only enter for games that you're interested in, intend to play & won't just let rot in a backlog.
- Keys are for your own use only/not to be traded (except for leftovers/duplicates from multi-game keys which may be re-gifted but not traded)
- Anything not redeemed within one week after being awarded may be given to another entrant or reused for a future giveaway.

Hmm hmm. My dilemma is that I'd like to enter for Hollow Knight, but I'm already entered for the same title in Doc's giveaway.

I wish I could give you a rabbit.

EDIT: Not in this time, but thank you so much for yet another superb giveaway. ❤

For those wondering, you can still enter if you won something in part 1 :)
Another one right after the previous one is finished? Dear adamhm are you competing with Doc0075 for most generous GOGer? :-O

Or I guess it's just easier to give away 25 lovely games at a time. :)

Well, whatever the case (except for your regular Linux promotion of course) don't mind if I do try my luck in this one as also.

Please, put my name in the hat for these two:
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection
Transport Fever

As always, thank you for being awesomely generous!

Despite that note, I'm going to bow out for this one. (For ease of scanning over the thread for adamhm: not in.) I luckily get lots of playing time during this christmas vacation, so my backlog is still manageable, but with three wins from various giveaways this month, it's time to let lady luck smile on someone else. (Knowing your excellent taste in games, I suspect I'll be back for parts 3 through the grand finale, though.) But thank you for your continuing crazy generosity and dedication to promoting Linux!

For anyone who doesn't know these games yet, but is willing to give them a shot based on the recommendation of a random internet stranger, strong recommendations for the following:
* Transistor (amazingly atmospheric sci-fi-y storytelling and puzzly action from the makers of Bastion)
* Transport Fever (no, it doesn't have competition, but other than that it's giving OpenTTD a serious run for its money; looks gorgeous and performs amazing (they eeked out a lot more performance since initial release))
* Victor Vran (sure, it's not quite as good as Diablo II or Grim Dawn, but it has various nice twists on the genre, a very personable 'guide' (even if some of the humor is a bit derivative), and it's just fun to play)
* World of Goo (really, there's someone out there who doesn't know World of Goo yet? You have been missing out so much. This is probably the game that set the world raving about modern indie games, and with reason. Lovely, personable puzzles with balls of goo. It doesn't get better than that. -- Signed: The Signpainter.)
