Protoss: If GOG would stop being an asshole, it could fight here, it could make video games count as art in Germany and as such exempt from that "nazis must be protected" law.
avatar
Siannah: Question is: why don't german gamers do that? Why you call out others to do it for you?
Because I don't have the financial means to stand through a many year long legal battle with a government about the wrong application of a law.
Because big companies would have those means and much more to gain than to lose.

Google doesn't define my world and I don't even use it. Besides, meanings change over time, let's see how DRM evolves.
It is against the laws of some countries to sell certain content. If you live in one of those countries, it is not the game companies fault. It sucks, it has been said time and time again that VPN services exist that are free to use but for the love of all things that mean anything to anyone, stop blaming a company that is meting the requirements set for by the region you live in or the developers that allow them to distribute the games.

Not saying it does, but if you going to claim something then you should know what it is and isn't. One of the problems is now the word has evolved into basically DRM being anything one does not like, which is ridiculous.

Then again.

That would make to much sense, and this is the internet where logic goes out the window... :)

It's not GOG's fault that Germany has such stupid Laws, this is the same issue with the recent Hotline Miami 2 ban in Australia. GOG has no choice but to follow such laws or it would end up in legal trouble.

As far as stupid Laws go, I'll take my country for example: Non Maltese residents can enter Casinos at ages 18+ while the Maltese residents have to be 25+. Why are non residents treated better? Still I don't blame the Casino, but the government that made such a stupid law.

The only question I would like an answer from the GOG team is only one: Can we, non German/Australian goglodytes gift such games to people who live in those countries?

Protoss: And in this case it is the usual racism against Germans that I expected not to see on GOG.
Man... are you drunk? Serious question.

I was angry too, when I first found out about this situation, but if you look at it objectively then we can't really blame GOG for this. If anything, blame the politicians in Germany, Australia and elsewhere for coming up with all of this nonsense in first place.

One way or another, even if it's not their fault, I can't help but feel a little pessimistic about GOG's future, regarding region control, censorship and so on.

I still haven't seen a concrete answer on that and I for one would love to help out in that regard.

Or perhaps we need to look at meanings to see if they still apply. Google Google Derp is simply status quo speaking, which is often irrelevant. Reassess, princess.

Please don't tell me you're so fucking stupid you actually believe this has anything whatsoever to do with racism.

Protoss: Only if that bar is from a country where selling it to a minor is allowed and the minor is from a country where it is not allowed.

tinyE: Are you suggesting that bars travel?
Well, there are ships on the Baltic sea that amount to just that, sea-going bars. Some neighbouring countries tax alcool at a level that forces sober behaviour...
avatar
tinyE: Yeah, while I've been having some fun with these censorship threads, this is getting old. It's like blaming the bartender for refusing to sell to a minor.

Yes, and...?

Hell it doesn't have to be Google, I bet a dictionary says the same... perhaps we just need to accept what is really is and stop applying it to everything that sucks.

Maybe it doesn't suck, maybe DRM can also be useful, I don't know. Just obeying arbitrary definitions helps no one.
