People hating on Gamespy for shutting down multiplayer servers should get their hate straight. They should hate Gamespy for selling that part of their business off to another company. "Powered by Gamespy" has nothing to do with Gamespy any more and as far as I know will continue to operate after this. You should hate them for that.
To be honest I haven't read much on the mentioned sites in recent years, but I've been linked to some interesting articles though. I hope the Internet Wayback Machine will provide once the sites' disappear.

Can you find any old gamecenter.com articles? Yep, I wouldn't hold my breath on that last bit:)

You're correct. I just looked through the entire archive of crawled "pages" for both and it's practically non-existent, even though the robots.txt is quite permissive.

Which is a shame, they had some real gems, including some very interesting editorials regarding stuff going on in gaming which was rather unique to the time.
I have the impression that game programmers and designers usually find jobs rather easily when their company goes bankrupt. How about game journalists? I can't imagine that there is a lot of demand for them right now.
Foxhack: Why couldn't they just shut down IGN proper? THAT is what needs the mercy killing.
Because IGN is like the McDonald's of gaming websites. It would be like buying Burger King, finding out they also own this nice little restaurant on the outskirts of London that has a well deserved Michelin star and some pretty unique dishes and keeping that and ditching Burger King.
It's just business. Clearly IGN is where the money's at.
Somehow these news make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, probably because C&C Generals and C&C 3 were hosted on Gamespy servers... bad memories. And as for reviews, they were all bought anyway, this the only honest game reviews website I like to read(warning: a lot of swearing inside):
