So, if I take the latest available DDL Grimrock patch, extract the main exe using 7zip, and drop it into Steam Grimrock, will I get DRM free Grimock extremely cheap? :)

I really liked their "game achievements rewards stuff". Gave me an incentive to actually play some of the games I bought. Without it, I would have missed some games I put hours into. It even got me again into some games I already wrote of as failure.

I do like the download speeds right now 27.1 - 0 kb/sec. I guess I will not be trying Death and the Fly tonight.

Buy the game, download the torrent. Lot easier, same effect.

What rewards? As far as I know, the achievements are only good for bragging rights.

I do find achievements interesting when they motivate you into doing something you wouldn't have though of otherwise (such as beating a daytime level of plants Vs zombies with only nightime plants + coffee beans), but often they are just trying to extend the life of the game making you repeat the same things over and over or making you examine the whole map with a magnifying lent (read prototype and the damned blue orbs). I find those incredibly annoying and just ignore them.

As far as I know, the level of discount is likely to be about the same, but there will probably be more games on sale at any one time.

Not usually, it's going to be mostly the same prices. A couple of games might be 50% or 66% off here, and go to 66% or 75% at Christmas, and sometimes the base price drops which lowers the sale (so 75% off would be $7.49, and go down to $4.99 later).

But I mean, the differences will probably be negligible. You see a daily deal you like, go for it I say.

The rule is:if you see a title you are interested for at 75%,buy it.
Yes,some title may be up to 80% (some indies or some bundles),but usually 75% off is the maximum discount for that game.
If you are interested for a game at 50% that is not on dayly deals or flashes,wait for them and buy it,don't buy it before flashes or daily.

I would only worry about newer games, such as XCOM, being cheaper in the Christmas sale. Anything older won't be any cheaper, probably.

Though nothing is really guaranteed obviously, they have done surprise blow-outs before.

Thanks a lot guys... what i am seeing right now is that most of the notable games are at a price drop of 50% with an off chance of 66% or 75%... i just wanted to know that does it happen that those 50% discounts jump up to 75% on Christmas... i know its hard to tell... but someone who has seen steam sale for some time will have an idea

I started using steam last christmas, s I've only really lived through the summer sale, but my experience says there are 3 types of deals:

1- default sale. This lasts the whole sale, till the 27th I believe. Usually around 25-50%
2- special sale. This lasts for a single day, or just a few hours for flash sales. around 50-80%
3- Maxi pack sale. This usually lasts longer and have great discounts, but any game you already own is lost so it's only good for newcomers. Plus you probably buy stuff you don't really want.

My modus operandi was: get anything you like on a special sale, and on the last day you taken anything that didn't get a better offer because it's unlikely to get much better on the near future.

And then there's capcom, which ignores sales and still tries to sell DMC3 for 20€.

Defender's Quest only £5.99 now. I've been waiting for this to go on sale again since I missed the original GOG launch week sale. As it stands, it's a little more than half the price on Steam as it is on GOG (going off GOG's USD price to Steam's GBP price).
