It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

FYI, it seems Steam's forums were hacked. They're now 404 but when they come back, you will probably want to change your passwords, etc.
Thanks for the heads-up. :)

For those changing their passwords when the forums come back up note that you should make sure to not using the same password for the forums as for your Steam account. While the forums are separate I'd still recommend changing your Steam account password as well just to be doubly sure.
I would definitely recommend updating information once the site comes back up, both Steam account and forums. No doubt a lot of people used the same information for both, so this should be interesting to see how they handle things.

So much for their statement of no security vulnerabilities existing on their end, even if it is just the forums. That is a lot of data compromised right there.

And lets not forget that Valve actually want to integrate the forum accounts with actual Steam accounts in the future. I sure hope this is a wake up call for that plan.

Thankfully, my forum account shares neither password nor name with my Steam account or email address used for both.

Although I'll be changing passwords just to be sure... As there's no knowing what Valve have done behind the scenes in preparation for linking accounts.
I don't use Steam much, so I wouldn't have been aware of this. Thank you for the heads up.
I don't care. For general forums where no personal information is required, I never use good passwords. Just simple words I'll remember.

Forums are seperate accounts for safety reasons so yeah, using the same info would've been silly. If that's the extent of the breach I'm not worried.
Phew. Good thing I decided I didn't need to post on the forums yet. Can't get hacked if my account don't exist. :)

Except that Valve (specifically BurtonJ) has been mentioning connecting forum accounts to Steam accounts for several months. And I already know they connect accounts, support accounts and forum accounts internally somehow -- as I've seen them connecting references to support tickets without being given any information pointing to either a support account name or Steam account name.
... fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.

I hate it when this stuff happens.

Hence why i said 'if that's the extent of the breach'
How does 404ing equate to hacking? There could be any reason for it. I'll keep an eye out for an email, I hope I don't have to change my account password because of some lame forum hack, it was a great big string of numbers and symbols.
Pics and slightly more information:

The email that's apparently been sent out to the accounts:

Ever wanted to dominate the servers you play on with guaranteed results, but you were too afraid to cheat because of ban risks? Visit removed domain It's safe, secure and undetected.

Along with hacks, we've also got some general discussion sections, hacking tutorials and tools, porn, free giveaways and much more. This site has been conditioned to meet all your needs in terms of resources so be sure to take a look and tell us what you think.

Thanks again,

Fkn0wned apparently is not taking responsibility: "In lights of someone crediting us for the recent breaches of steam forums, the board is offline. Fkn0wned is not responsible."

Because the actual text on the forums was changed, and clicking on general discussion led users to a hacking forum full of people laughing about what was going on. An image of the incident posted elsewhere.

It lasted for about 10 minutes or so, or at least at the time I saw it, upon which the forums were taken down with a variety of system messages appearing since.
The Steam/Forum/Support accounts are all separate for a variety of reasons. Mostly due to if your Steam account is compromised then you need to create a separate Support ticket for it with a different account.
