Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Russonc: On my 2nd PC, I paid $250.00 to add 16 MB of system memory....Less than my crappy watch has now!

robbknoll: Brings back memories of my old Wang computer. Never have I been so good at navigating DOS, my child self would run rings around me now.
the good old Dos prompt.... :0

MysterD: What OS are you running?

You need to run that game in Compatibility Mode for an OS it actually worked on; and turn off any of that Aero crap (check boxes to Desktop Comp & Visual Themes); and run as Admin.

In general - that's stuff I listed is really important for any older games that were released from Win XP and before; especially if you're running Win Vista/7.

Infin8ty: If it's Win8, you can't even do this. You either need to dual boot or run a VM. I run XP in a VMWare Player for SC2K and it runs beautifully, but it won't even install on Win8.
Yeah, I don't have Win 8.
One of numerous reasons I'm currently avoiding Win 8 like the plague, for now.

It's annoying that Win 8 forces that Aero crap on at ALL times.

Tolmar: 2nd, yes they all have. 3rd I don't think so

implord66: Thanks! I probably keep missing it when I go to bed.
If I remember when I wake up I'll keep a look out and snag you a copy if it hasn't been already
110 mark... almost there...

xenxander: TRUST ME, I've done EVERYTHING possible and it won't run.

I run it in compatibility mode, with or without all functions in the options.

It WON'T fucking run, with my video card. IF anyone has an Nvidia 550 TI and can get it to run, tell me how. As it stands, I wasted my fucking money with Sacred Gold on GOG. but I don't blame GOG, they didn't know the Nvidia 550 couldn't run the game.
avatar
MrJeeves84: I've got the same problem, my friend... :/
Good.

This is the LAST time I buy an Nvida card. You also want to know why? the card freezes up my PC all the fucking time! It just stops working over and over. The Nvidia 550 TI is A piece of SHIT

Daz12380: your bday?
avatar
gscotti: Yeah. And there was this dude from Germany also celebrating a B-day, but he left to sleep.

gscotti: Not to brag, but for those who have their B-day today, Google is celebrating with us ;D
Happy Birthday to You and Google... Many Happy Returns..

Well, the game is in your library regardless of what computer you are using. so in the future, when you get another computer, you will have a better chance of running the game... :)

saruchan: Ah, but do you have ET?
avatar
xenxander: dude I had my mom take me to toys r' us and I BOUGHT ET for the atari, back when they sold atari games.

I actually played, liked, and understood that game.
I didn't understand the negative hype behind the game.

OF course I was a young kid at the time, but still.
I can't remember where we got it (Sears, maybe?). I was pretty young then myself, and I've pulled it out since then too. Last time I really tried was around 2005 -- I still can't do it, and my reaction now is essentially the same it's always been. I try a few times and end up wanting to throw the joystick in to the TV.

Daz12380: interesting fact the old crt tvs for 1960s roughly would create xrays and thats why kids now days are told not to be too close to the screen as it could damage there eyes
avatar
jackster79: I had forgotten being told that as a child until you mentioned it! Never understood that - thanks for clearing that up.
It was actually one very specific brand that had that problem and the defect wasn't present in every one. It's pretty impressive that it's persisted for so long in light of that.
I see this is running about 1 sale per minute......It needs to pick up the pace or I will be asleep before the next game (Jade Empire please...unless I fall asleep...then go with Jack Keane)
Google's birthday is in September...

Ugh. I'm so sorry you have that problem. I have one similar with Amnesia. I only have a black screen when I run it.

It's not that bad, but I do have XP lying around and am willing to make a VM for games that need it. I actually also have a VM for 7, 98, and 95, just in case. It does run a tad faster then 7 though, at least in my experience. It's a mixed bag, but it doesn't deserve all the hate. The MS OS that deserves hate is ME, worthless pile of garbage....
