Creating an offline profile takes literally 10 seconds and it not a hassle what-so-ever. It also does not require internet, obviously.

Alexrd: That's why I find GfWL a bit more torelable (and therefore better) than Steam. You don't have to be online to install and play the game you bought.
The games with ZDPP need a one time connection to verify the game. Older GFWL games are fully offline playable, but newer ones aren't.

Fred_DM: get real. you think people complain about GfWL for no reason? just because you've been lucky so far doesn't mean it works flawlessly for everybody. i had been using GfWL for a few years without problems when all of a sudden i got all kinds of issues with the client. i found threads about that particular problem all over the place. 'solutions' inlcuded spending an hour in the registry deleting individual entries. still wouldn't work. re-install impossible. .NET framework corrupted. re-install impossible.

i never got GfWL to work again until i formatted and re-installed Windows.

bottom line: GfWL works fine as long as it works (d'oh), but it can get fucked up good. i never had a problem like that with Steam in over 7 years...

But the problem never was that you have to be ONLINE (or offline) ... It was just that you are still forced to use a chunk of it and it's interface for single player only because Stinging said he has never had to deal with its crap due to sticking to single player only so I provided an example where you still have to use it online or offline for singleplayer ...

Local profiles are hardly unique to GfWL, they've been used for years to decide which local player's progress to use (since most Windows users on the same machine use the same user account).

Look man, if you want to insist you're right when you're wrong (especially in every damned sense that matters), knock yourself out. Everyone sane knows using a local/offline profile does not constitute being beholden to GfWL and never fucking has since the days of Overlord (or maybe before, I can't think of a game I owned before that that had it). It may have changed now, but it was exactly as I fucking said, you don't have to be online to save your game in Gears of War PC. My copy of the indie game Ballistic has you create an offline "profile" too, OH NOES THE INVASION OF MY PC!!!!

On topic of the game, I can't wait for the pc version to arrive. Hopefully they've ironed out some of the bugs from the console version.

No where in that I said you have to be online and my original message was in regards to

You can do all this being offline. A friend of mine played Fallout 3 completely offline. GfWL will be installed on your system and when it can't connect online it will only be usable with an offline profile.

You never have to go online with a GfWL retail game.

The word connect is generally associated with establishing an online connection. I don't connect to Steam when I start a Steam game, I don't connect to DosBox for a Dosbox game etc.

And if you know that you can use GfWL offline, I fail to see your problem with it. You excactly see the interface once during startup. From there on it serves no funtionality in offline mode (which is illustrated by that quite a few GfWL games can be run without GfWL in the first place).

He's just being obtuse and trying to split hairs, claiming he didn't actually mean what he did actually mean (and said) in order to win the argument. Don't worry about it, he's just stewing about the whole thing.
