Themken: See nothing wrong with this but this thread probably breaks the forum rules, strictly speaking.
Not really. The only thing that was asked was a question.

i thought it was a forum

oops?

Uhmm, a rule that promoting another business is against the rules is very common BUT ONE SHOULD NOT ASSUME. I actually cannot find any such, so I guess I was wrong, to my own amazement. On Steam, I understand you may not as much as whisper the name of another website or shop that has anything to do with the goods they sell there.

I also use magog from time to time, though the sheer number of options is at times overwhelming ;).
I don't usually crowdfund (especially not recurring payments), but I would contribute $5-10 from time to time.

For now we decided that the thread does not violate our forum CoC and we will leave it open. However, we will watch it closely ;)

Please keep in mind that one of our rules in CoC, clearly states that we do not tolerate selling (including real-life or in-game trading), advertising, referrals, auctioning - unless this applies to giveaways. We will be forced to close the thread once it violates the rules.

But does magog violate GOG user agreement (which by the way bans mods too)..

(e) Do not create, use, make available and/or distribute cheats, exploits, automation software, robots, bots, mods, hacks, spiders, spyware, cheats, scripts, trainers, extraction tools or other software that interact with or affect GOG services or GOG content in any way (including, without limitation, any unauthorised third party programs that intercept, emulate, or redirect any communication between GOG or its partners and GOG services and/or any unauthorised third party programs that collect information about GOG Services).
(Needless to say, it is hard to take GOG's policies seriously when there's such an overreaching ban)

Thank you.

BTW, would GOG be interested in supporting the development of MaGog in the form of a small, recurring donation (or any other form)?
If you are going to start accepting donations, I will donate.
Mrkgnao, have you considered affiliate marketing? I'm using gg.deals and itad for tracking promotions and I think both services tracks my clicks and earn some profit from my GOG purchases. I guess it's the best way to earn from such a service, because:
a) you bring traffic and customers to GOG, which makes sense for both sides (and will never be against aforementioned rules),
b) you're receiving a stable (more or less) cash flow proportional to number of users redirected to the store, which IMHO would be much more difficult in a model based on donations.

Oh, and I think MaGog needs some work in terms of usability. It's really feature-rich service, but it's interface was always an unsolvable puzzle for me ;)

While I am truly grateful to the people who have stated here that they would be willing to crowdfund MaGog, I have decided not to go that way after all. Thank you one and all.

Good luck with your videogame.

Bummer.

I might be an old fart who doesn't have a good relationship with "the latest tech" like patreon and other crowdfunding sites, or even paypal. But I was looking forward to try and give you a bit of a compensation, at least a part of what I saved in my Gog purchases over the years thanks to Magog.

Well, the reason I ended up not crowdfunding MaGog is because I decided to crowdfund my other website (Fweet) instead. If you're keen on compensating me for my past sins, you can always donate there. Here is the link: https://liberapay.com/Fweet

I am not asking anyone to donate, but if you wish to, I will naturally be grateful. I will not be able to thank you personally, though, as all donations (except those going through PayPal) are anonymous.

Thanks. Let's leave at that to avoid the risk of overzealous moderation.
Honestly Gog should be your main donor

No kidding...
They should start by making sure there are never any technical issues hindering MaGOG though. And then integrating (much of) it as GOG search, probably.
