Apparently he wasn't fond of the paid workshop stuff, and commented on it. In response they issued him a 1 week community ban and deleted almost his entire posting history. Most posts he made - gone. Any topics he started - gone, along with all the replies.

How fucked up is that?
When you own the media, censorship is easy.
petty, but will anyone really be surprised at this give the steam forums mods' reputation?

Did he make death threats? Curse out developers? What did he do, just criticize the paid mods? It would be interesting to see Valve's letter to him and if they even give a reason.
Tell him to join GOG and DRM-free gaming.
I too am curious, what did he say that demanded such disciplinary actions?
Make a platform based around social interaction.

Delete all social interaction of a user for arbitrary reasons.

????

Profit!

How could that possibly go wrong?
People stop purchasing video games from Steam NOW.

VALVe is becoming a monopoly, monetizing everything they can, and are dictators on their forums deleting people's concerns.

I read one person who said the Steam forums used to be like gog.com's forums where hardly any moderation happened and it only happened when people were doing scams, thefts stuff like that.

It is time for VALVe and Steam to be dethroned and gog.com to take over.
There will be a need to take screenshot when posting against the steam workshop things. When you are being banned unfairly, you can post your screenshot all over the internet and watch the fireworks. Then again the fireworks in paid modding is spectacular enough.
Steam has forums?

Huh.

Who knew.

A mere forum mod wouldn't have the power to do this. This would've had to be done at actual Valve Support Employee level.

I don't actually know exactly what he said. I doubt it was death threats, but it was probably insulting.

Tell him to get over here. The only complaint he'll have is too many good ole' games.
The sad thing is he's scared to even submit a Support ticket now, thinking that they might respond by just banning his account completely.
This sounds like a bit much and I don't believe it.

Reminds me of the time I had a big argument with someone on the Amazon forums about DRM, and he argued that Valve being a monopoly is good for PC gaming.

:P !?
