nijuu: Never played Demon Souls or Dark Souls (dont have a console and unlikely to have one in the future.. maybe except for a Vita lol). I read about both in different places and i get impression Demon Souls is the harder and better game. Which is why im wondering why people pushed to get Dark Souls onto PC rather than the first game?.
I've heard a lot of people prefer Demon's Souls and a lot of people prefer Dark Souls. So not really sure that one is a clear winner than the other. As for why the first game isn't being ported, Sony owns it, so less likely to get it. That's why they went with the name Dark Souls and called it a spiritual sequel, they couldn't do an actual one.

Nroug7: hard in a cheap way (enemies constantly staggering you)
That's not cheap, just how they designed the game, if you get hit your suffer (staggering in this case).

Good grief Demon's Souls was a fun game. I pretty much have shelved my PS3 because of RL, but that game was a high point. Seeing this thread makes me want to pull it back out and try Dark Souls (plus Shadows of the Colussus...).

Did anyone else manage to beat the introduction boss (Demon's Souls)? I beat him once with my 3rd character, was pumped up thinking "hey what now?!", and then had a real laugh at what happens next...

You fight that guy in area 4 - 1 and can take him out quite easily if you dont manage to kill him at the start. Never done it myself though, think a Youtube moment is coming on to see what happens if you do beat him at the start.

Finally killed Ornstein and Smough yesterday, did a bit of grinding to level up from 56 to 62, summoned Solaire and managed to summon someone decent to help me with the battle. Was pretty epic. Then you meet a dark version of Squidward at Firelink Shrine t put the lord vessel in its rightful place.

Headed down into the Catacombs last night and worked my way through there, got invaded twice. First one was annoying as they kept running off, had a weird playstyle. Second one though was absolutely amazing, it was like a game of cat & mouse. Battle went on for a good 20 minutes, I kept climbing up the ladder beside the bonfire entrance to heal and they followed, battled a bit then they dropped down to heal and run into the tunnel to change weapons so I swapped out also. In the end we both ran out of healing items so was chasing him down. I finally got killed by one of the exploding skulls but it was REALLY close. Got a message through PSN from him saying great game.

Killed the Pinwheel first attempt but when I climbed out of the crypt the game pulled a dirty trick. Black Dark and I have no illumination spells, following the coloured lights to take me into Tomb of Giants and fell to my death as couldnt see the ground or 2 foot in front of me. So way back at the bonfire in Catacombs now. May actually try the shortcut in the coffin near where the Titanite Demon was as that takes you to Tomb of Giants from what I have read.

I still prefer Demons Souls to this one. Im not sure I will play through it again a second time once I get through it at the min, at times it can be extremely frustrating. At least I have moved forward now, had been stuck on Ornstein and Smough since before Christmas so had stopped playing.
I think I beat the tutorial Vanguard once as a Royal. It is indeed pretty hilarious. You feel all pumped and awesome and then BAM cut back down to size.

And yeah, Ornstein and Smough are really really hard the first time you do it, gets easier on subsequent playthroughs. Staying at range helps as does bringing phantoms. Soloing it is reeeally hard, but even one person makes it a lot easier and it's a lot easier as a mage than a melee character. For the Tomb of Giants, if you don't want to get a light spell head to Lost Izalith. Although a kind of annoying level, there's a helm there that emits light. Oh, and the coffin does technically take you to the tomb but it's a closed off area for joining the Gravelord Covenant, it's not a shortcut.

Overall I like Dark Souls a bit more than DS because there's just MORE everything. It's not quite as atmospheric, but the added variety makes up for it imo.

Oh, and iainmet, just wait till you get to the Bed of Chaos and 4 Kings. Now those are annoying bosses (though a lot easier if you know what you're doing) XD.
Cool, these games a incredibly good, and i feel bad for PC gamers not being able to play them.. so it's about time if it does come!... i myself will not be buying it, since demons and dark souls are the only ps3 games i haven't returned to the store after i was done with them.. they are just that good!
I got some bad news for you people. It all seems like the port is getting srewed up and not even the issues with Blighttown are getting fixed:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-07-from-software-having-a-tough-time-porting-dark-souls-to-pc-frame-rate-issues-remain
Only thing they intend is to rush the port out as fast as possible.
If you already think this is bad news, wait till you read this here:

Even with high-end graphic cards, this game struggles to maintain a solid performance.

Ugh this is the likely scenario:

pc gamers that buy this game are outraged then the game is pirated to hell and back
then from software will say they will never make a game on PC again due to massive piracy even though it is not piracy's fault it is bad decision making by the dev/pub
releasing a broken rushed out game as fast as possible before willing buyers lose interest and not fixing the game to work on the platform

the reason people pirate is because they really want the game but they do not think its not worth paying for since it so broken and releasing the game on GFWL does not help either

PCs are not consoles, the sheer power of high-end machines might make the lack of "additional optimisation" irrelevant.

Isn't this the same (hardly reliable) site which claimed the game would be locked at 1280x720 (according to recent reports, it was a blatant lie on their part)?
Besides, it's no wonder the game doesn't run smoothly, it's still being worked on!

So, is anyone playing it? I did a search on the forum and this thread seemed the most recent on this topic.

I've been playing it for almost two months and I love it. Despite its porting flaws, it's one of the best (a)rpgs I have played lately. I wish there were more pc rpgs like it.
