Some say it is nothing but a myth,
Others it can't really work And / Or don't like what it requires (when you need another account),
One hope it's the future (me?)

But what is it really, at this state and time, and possibly in the future?
What games support it now - and at which route?
Is there a GogMix for Cross-Play games on Gog to link this thread? If not, Let me know so I can start one and link it here.

- As I understand there are 4 routes:
1. In-Game Multi-Player, accomplished through direct Ip connection - similar to Lan of old games or DosBox IPX. Ex Terraria.
2. It Just Works... somehow assimilating into Steam API or whatnot - Ex Double Dragon Trilogy.
3. A Propriety account one must have in addition to Gog/Steam/Whatever and All clients connect to it. Ex Van Hellsing Final Cut.
4. A Central hub, assuming It connects both Gog and Steam players (maintained through a company server?) Ex?
5? Currently only internal Multi Player (through Galaxy) but with a possibility of Cross-Play in the future? Ex Homeworld Remastered?

I suppose each route has cons and benefits, such as the support (or lack thereof) for In-Client Invites & Matchmaking.
Would really appreciate feedback on that and how you think it (should and) can be improved.

- But what I don't know and would really like the community input is what can and can't be done.
1. What Does "It Takes" to make a game Cross-Play?
Is there something that can be done through the community to expand or fasten support?
2. When is a game "Too Invested" into current Steam(works?) to allow it have Cross-Play?
Is there a possible list of games that will make it hard or less likely to migrate into Cross-play?
3. What can Gog do about it? Especially in terms of improving aspects in the client,
But also in regard to private servers or support of community held ones - Is it feasible?
4. How about Cross-Play for old titles? Can we resurrect services like GameSpy And / Or support ventures like Kali League?

Some people are in need of feedback (and very much welcomed input)! :)

Gog's strategy:
- add a cool feature.
- limit it to a few titles.
- forget about it.
- extend Galaxy beta.
- repeat.

:P
There are also games like Terraria, which is able to crossplay with Steam players via direct IP connections and without any hooks to Galaxy or Terraria-based accounts whatever. Yes, the base game is all you need to play online with Terraria.
Hmm, This seems awfully lacking, is badatvidyagames even connecting to Gog nowadays?
If this is the only one I think I'll start a new one.

That's cool to know! will you say it's more of a route 2 or 3? Maybe something totally different?
Was Gog involved or was it a Terraria decision (neglecting Galaxy or actually incorporated within)?

Honestly I'll say it is a Terraria decision. When the game was only on Steam, it didn't even offer the ability to invite people or make servers (according to what I read) using the Steam interface, it relied on direct IP connections. The big difference is that you needed Steam to LAUNCH Terraria.

I'd classify it as a 5th option: games with multiplayer without hooks or whatever.
Games which certainly support crossplay through Galaxy:

8-Bit Armies
Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000
Battlezone 98 Redux
Double Dragon Trilogy
Grand Ages: Medieval
Rise of the Triad (2013)
The Witcher Adventure Game

Games that maybe support crossplay through Galaxy:

Deathtrap
Tropico 5

Based on the current information provided here is a new GogMix: https://www.gog.com/mix/crossplay_on_gog
I will update it with relevant info and add games in various stages of Cross-Play (including in dev Cross-Play) when possible, thanks!
Is that some catholic game store/client?

I dunno, I just hit google looking for info on Crossplay, because there is so much hype around it and everyone has fluffy ideas about what it is and does that are more or less impossible technologically, so I wanted to find a list of games that actually support it.
One thing about Crossplay that I never see anyone mention really, is that the average gamer who has heard about it but doesn't know the details, as well as the average gaming journalist seems to think Crossplay is some magic wand, like GOG made this magic software that connects to Steam, connects to Origin or any other gaming service and enables gamers on any of those services to play games with anyone on other services and it works with any game that's on GOG that is also on Steam or wherever. Magic wand.

In reality, if that was true there would be no need to compile a list of Galaxy compatible games other than to say out loud "every game that is sold on GOG that is also sold on Steam and has multiplayer". But that's not how it works at all. People are misled to think that because it was announced using marketing presentation with no real technical details, then mainstream journalism more or less copy and pasted that and non-technical people jumped to magic beans conclusions that don't really make any technical sense. :)

I don't know precicely how it works myself, but I know that games have to be made Galaxy multiplayer+crossplay compatible for it to work, which ultimately means that it's more or less a GOG owned replacement for Gamespy with which us GOG gamers can rely upon to have working multiplayer as long as GOG is in business rather than "as long as Gamespy" is in business or some other 3rd party here to day gone tomorrow. So Galaxy multiplayer matchmaking is good for us in the sense it is gives our games more longevity with multiplayer than some 3rd party site that might fold tomorrow - as long as you make the assumption that GOG's business direction is on a solid footing, and I think it is. What we do know is that it doesn't allow any random games to be able to do multiplayer between services like magic however. It requires the game developers to decide to use the GOG multiplayer platform as the multiplayer component in their games. That's how it works ultimately is that it doesn't matter where you buy those crossplay compatible games, they all must use Galaxy multiplayer service for it to work. There are probably finer details to it than that which are more complicated but that's the jist. Those same games could also support other multiplayer services as well such as Steam etc. but it's just another one that support is being added for.

I just wish that they would publish the technical details without the marketese however and put the magic unicorn ideas some people have to sleep. :)

Ask Breja or TinyE. Those are experts in cross-dress... I mean, cross-play!

No. That would be CosPlay
