I'd guess that roughly 70-90% of all video games featuring a human as the main character depict it as male. This was even more so in the old days (1990's and early-to-mid 2000's) before the concept of "social justice" existed. And sorry to disappoint the diversity-first activists - but outside of Asian video game culture, the overwhelming majority of protagonists are white males, for simple demographic reasons. In the Western nations that pioneered video gaming as an art form, entertainment, and industry - who was historically most likely to play video games? Nerdy males, who were predominantly young and white. That's just the way it's been until recent years where video gaming went mainstream. No amount of flaming, activism, false controversy, or "BAAAWWWWW" will change history - although it may make a difference moving forward..

I'm seeing this in addition to all the career-complainers' "BAWWWW" against the Witcher franchise as unfair targeting against CDPR. Why do the career-complainers only whine about V being depicted as male by default in the collector's edition? How about bashing any of the 100's of other games that came out this year depicting a man as the main character?

Heck, while they're at it, how about trolling through the whole history of video gaming and bashing every game that features a man as the main character on the box art? On the bright side, it would keep them so busy they wouldn't have time to spout any more nonsense moving forward.

Come on, you know the devs know better than to force players to be one gender or the other. Gamers have made it very clear in the past, they want certain options during the character creation process when it comes to RPGs.

Or did women not play the games because they felt it a hostile environment where all of the important people and heroes were male and females were usually only there to look sexy and be objectified?

Would women in the past even have had much chance to get into the games industry and create the games they wanted to play?

God forbid that men and women, as groups, would make different choices and appreciate different things.

I always find it funny how nowadays some peoples are quick to forget that some of the most influential figures of the early gaming industry were woman.

Not to forget those cowardly ghosts in Super Mario World that only attacks when you turn your back on them. Shigeru Miyamoto's wife is the source of inspiration for those.
