Christmas, eh... We never really do anything too fancy. Stay at home and watch mediocre but enjoyable Christmas movies. A lot of those sure do air on TV. Maybe have dinner with family members and friends, sometimes more family members than you knew you had. Attend a church service on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day itself, maybe both, can't recall. I really enjoy it all, heheh. Always something to look forward to at the end of the year.

I'm in for the giveaway. It is really good of you guys to help bring holiday cheer to this place like this.

Sulibor: Makielki, in my humble opinion, is the tastiest regional Christmas dish. It consists of minced poppy seed mixed with honey, raisins, nuts and homemade noodles.
To prepare it you need to wash poppy seed and leave it in cold water for about 24 hours. Then you need to blanch it and mince it (or save yourself the trouble and buy it minced already :) ). To the minced poppy you need to add hacked raisins, figs, almonds and nuts and some honey. Then you need to prepare the dough for the noodles. The important thing is that the noodles should be shaped in thick stripes.
Ooh, this sounds good, too! Just curious to see if I can get the ingredients 'round here.

SpartanSloth: Personally, I really like Don't shoot me Santa by The Killers. I just think it's a funny depiction of Santa Claus and his job XD. I noticed it got posted before, so I hope it's alright.
That brought a really big smile to my face :)

misteryo: That is amazingly obnoxious! And I already have small children in my house who do that kind of thing on their own. I don't need no youtube version!
Indeed. And I'm not about to show my kids this or I'll regret it for the rest of the month :)

Caesar.: In my family it is traditional to eat "cochinillo asado" (roasted suckling pig) on Christmas Eve. Of course the recipe is a family secret, but this one is close enough: https://www.spain-recipes.com/cochinillo-asado.html

My favorite Christmas song is Don't Shoot Me Santa.

Thanks for the giveaway, I'd like to be in and my wishlist is public.
It seems you've been nice this year (you even changed your name for this giveaway)! Santa left a present in your stocking. :)
For a kiddie-friendly treat, I've provided a simple recipe good for the whole year. I've tried to provide enough details for the international audience, but likely they'll be some problems understanding what the ingredients are. I've provided alternatives at the bottom as well. Enjoy.

Rocky Road

200g pink and white marshmallows, halved (about an inch in size, not the campfire size)
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 cup soft raspberry "lollies", halved (USA: "Gummy Candy" Raspberries are the closest things I could find to describe it)
1/2 cup (unsalted) dry roasted peanuts, roughly chopped (or purchase it pre-chopped)
200g premium quality dark or milk cooking chocolate, chopped

- Prepare your ingredients. You may use a pair of kitchen scissors to snip the marshmallows and raspberry lollies in half. Measurements are in Australian cup measurements (1 cup = 250ml).
- Line a 20 x 30 x 2 cm (deep) baking pan / dish with baking paper. (note: any pan will technically do, the dimensions are a tested size to allow the recipe to set without being too dense to cut).
- Combine marshmallows and coconut in a large mixing bowl (it will help stop the cut sides from clumping too much). Add raspberries and peanuts, mixing well.
- Gently melt your choice of cooking chocolate. Any method (double boiler on stove / microwave) is fine, just don't overdo it. Pour chocolate over your other ingredients in the bowl and quickly mix to coat well. Spoon mixture evenly into your prepared pan (lightly press if necessary), and refrigerate until firm.
- When you think it is firm enough to stand it, cut into chunks / pieces (if it gets too firm, it will be hard to cut). Keep refrigerated to maintain solidity.

Ingredient alternatives:
Don't like soft raspberry lollies? Try Glace (Candied) Cherries
Can't eat peanuts? Try pecans or walnuts
Can't find desiccated coconut? I suppose you could use fine shredded instead

The video is an ad for a bank from when I was a kid. I'm not too much into Christmas stuff, but I love this song.

Also, thanks for the generosity! Happy Holidays everyone!

Oh, and before I forget: I'm in! ^_^

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

skimmie: You eat kaasstengels during the Christmas season? We eat those all year long! good stuff :)
Yes. After the ritual and spent some hours with the family, people often hit the roads to do a short visit to friends and relatives. Hopping to one place and another to congratulate and gave each other well-wishes. And heaven forbade a guest exiting our door hungry and with nothing filled their stomache. So cookies are ideal treats for these short timed guests. We as guests silently judge the quality of the cookies and ranked them :P

And to avoid confusion Indonesian Kastengels is a form of cookies, different from The Dutch Cheese puff pastry Kaasstengels. Putri Salju/Snow Princess and Nastar/Pineapple Tart makes the holy trinity.

Gede: Season's greetings, you Christmas Islanders and GOG community in general!

In my area of Portugal this is what a traditional Christmas looks like:
avatar
Gede: This is a commercial for an olive oil, and the song is not a Christmas specific tune (but it is traditional). I'll see if I can find some local Christmas tunes.

We usually eat boiled dry cod with cabbage (that you see in the clip). I understand it does not sound too yummy, but it is nice if you are not a fancy person. And I think the recipe is just like it sounds: leave the cod in water overnight, to take some salt away, put the cod and cabbage and some sliced garlic in a pan (pressure cooker, perhaps), boil it, serve with a lot of olive oil.

Some people go with the turkey.

I'll try and add some songs and recipes (for sweets, perhaps) tomorrow.
(Should Santa came by my chimney carrying a GOG code, I would welcome him — and that reminds me of a story I'll see if I can add here to the thread. Thanks. I hope this will summon the spirit of Christmas.)

EDIT:
This is the most "traditional" Christmas song in Portugal. As you can quickly understand, it is not that old. And the lyrics are just as silly and "light" as they can be. No real content in there, just sugar coated happy thoughts.

Oh my. Being nice is a condition? I guess I'm disqualified then! XD
